President 'becoming an absolute monarch' on war powers, Dem says
Edited on Fri Jun-24-11 10:13 PM by The Northerner
A House Democrat warned on Friday that the U.S. president is becoming an "absolute monarch" on matters related to the authority to start a war.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said Congress must act to limit funding for military operations in Libya in order to correct that trend.

"We have been sliding for 70 years to a situation where Congress has nothing to do with the decision about whether to go to war or not, and the president is becoming an absolute monarch," Nadler said on the floor. "And we must put a stop to that right now, if we don't want to become an empire instead of a republic."

Nadler stressed that he is not talking exclusively about "this president," meaning President Obama. But he said nonetheless that Congress needs to reassert its authority to declare war, and said this should be done even over concerns that it would damage U.S. credibility with its NATO allies.

3. Funny thing that is.

I advocated for the prosecution of war criminals, and better information systems so such things do not occur.

however.

Some think I am in 'punishment' when they continue wrongful actions of not correcting the beer and travel money that is due.

Those are those that think the 'condition someone is in' defines where they are suppose to be. Anyone can judge anyone, just put someone in hardship, then say they are under punishment, so then to further there delusion, they say someone can not do something, becuase they are 'protected' or they believe there is no free will, and people can not do some things.

Pick someone, anyone that thinks that way, and watch what happens a week later.

They literally think that there wrongful actions done to people, is the same as some just punishment.

From that they claim the world is already perfect, and nobody has to do anything.

I am due beer and travel money, and many experiences. And that is a just and compassionate due that will be sent.

2. He's right.
Obama is only the most recent in a long line, reaching back decades, of Presidents who have flagrantly abused the powers related to military action granted their position under the Constitution.

This is a side effect of a strong military-industrial complex, by the way.

4. He'll "stand strong" on is war powers. but
when it comes to a simple recess appointnment or other executive order to protect and or expand regulations or the safety net, he is like one of those worms that live at the bottom of the sea and duck back in their holes if a shadow appears.

In this vein, it occured to me that as SCOTUS has declared corporations to be persons, why no
make the best of it. Obama could issue an executive order directing the IRS to treat corporations like persons and forthwith collect income tax as individuals. This, of course, would mean rewriting taxing regulations so as to eliminate corporate loopholes that are not available to individuals.

5. No, he couldn't.
The IRS does not get its power from executive orders. It gets its power from the income tax code passed by Congress. Obama has no authority to make the change you suggested. Also it would make no tax sense. The corporate tax rate is about the same as the top rate for individuals.
