"Yes We Can" - translated
I'm still having trouble locating that list of translations of "Yes We Can" into other languages. Turns out that Google Translations is no help on this. We have a July 4th event where we were hoping to display them. Anybody here have that list handy? Please?

2. why the heck would you want to even use that slogan
much less translate it into foreign languages?

Seriously? Yes we can? Do Obama people really think they can use that slogan?

It'd be better to go with "well, we sorta tried, maybe a little". At least it would be more honest.

20. I don't see how?
Not when the fact is "oh no, you dint". Yes we can is not gonna inspire the same number of people this time around. Fool me once, and all that.

That slogan would be a loser this year.

How about Yes we can when the republicans are gone.

12. from the viewpoint of some , the fatalist notions you embrace are contrary to a positive slogan
Don't worry though, all the progress the Obama Administration will make in the future will continue in the not fast enough and too accomodating to the whole country approach, so you'll have plenty to kvetch about for another four years.

21. if I was fatalist, then I would just embrace the uselessness of Obama
instead of furiously typing away about it.

Maybe you can understand why this guy can't run on "yes we can" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLThYXo_Ht4&feature=related

You need to have actually hit some home runs before people are gonna ignore all the strikeouts.

11. Irish--Is Féidir Linn
If the font doesn't come thru, that's 'Is Feidir Linn' with an accent on the e (don't have to capitalize the F and the L, btw)

15. DUers are the awesomest! (well, mostly)
By way of explanation: We're working on a parade float for the parade on the 4th. Last year our float included some messages in both English and Spanish, and one of our state senators pitched a fit about it. So, to counter his many outbursts on the subject, we thought we'd decorate this year's float with expressions that truly celebrate the spirit of "E Pluribus Unum"; and since we're in a contentiously red area we figured that "Yes We Can" would be the simplest choice.

We've gained a significant number of immigrants from Somalia and other African nations. At present, we have over thirty languages spoken in the county. With your help I've now got about half of them. THANK YOU!

(Can't help wishing that we'd thought of this before the university went on break...)

24. Awesome! Try to post pictures!
Would love to see it! And excellent idea BTW. Love that you are being more inclusive in answer to the state Senator's hissy fit that was no doubt intended to get you to be more EXclusive. Well played!

22. How about some Portuguese

Sim, nós podemos (Yes, We Can)

Sim, se pode (Yes, it can be done)

Sim, você pode (Yes, you can)

Sim, eu posso (Yes, I can)

(btw, the "si se puede" in Spanish originated in the United Farm Workers' struggle in the early 1970s in Calif., if I remember correctly. Cesar Chavez was the UFW leader at the time.)
