The IRS Mileage Rate is going up!
I just got an email from work informing me that the mileage rate I can expense will go from 51 cents to 55.5 cents per mile! It begins July 1.

2. Thank you.
My job requires a lot of driving and I need a 4 wheel drive Jeep to do it. At 16.5 miles per gallon, I need all the help I can get. So what exactly is your point other than a nonsensical knee jerk reaction?

3. To point out that it's bad public policy
You and your employer have no financial incentive to reduce petroleum consumption. In fact, you're being financially rewarded for it so you might as well consume as much of it as possible.

And that's bad, for a multitude of reasons.

6. Do you benefit from natural gas at all?
Do you have gas heat or gas appliances? Do you get electricity from the grid? Do you use any petroleum based products? If you say no, I'll have to call bullshit. My job is to pave the road for natural gas pipelines that will give us a bridge to renewables. Many of these natural gas lines go to convert coal fired plants to natural gas.

9. Actually, it is an incentive to use a more fuel efficient vehicle for the ...
employee. They get .555 per mile no matter how much gas they actually use. Someone with 40mpg vehicle is going to have more money in their pocket than some driving a 14mpg vehicle.

12. Excellent point!
If I didn't need a gas guzzler for my work, I'd do that.
