If congress passes a deal, the economy will stabilize and....
....the GOP will lose in a landslide in 2012.

Which is why the GOP will NOT allow a deal to happen.

The shock to the economy of the debt ceiling not being raised is just what they need to take the White House in 2012.

The GOP, as a party, cannot afford to make a deal to raise the debt ceiling.

The country cannot afford to not have the debt ceiling raised.

The Republicans in congress have a choice to make: party or country. Which one are they going to save?

I know what I'm betting on.

1. I believe the choice is between tons of cash and country. Their needs,
and the needs of their families will be met just by hitting the speaking circuit. It's how it is done nowadays. Just hold the line for the megarich and get "taken care of" when you leave office. Disgusting.

"Indeed, since Wall Street knows that there would be no appetite for even a morsel of bailout when it collapses this time, the stakes for Wall Street are extremely high. Debt default would be kryptonite to the masters-of-the-universe."

Edited to add quote and link.
