I'm so glad the long, dreadful wait is over. |
|
Today we learn that pretty much all the torture investigations are over and nobody's guilty of anything. Wow. I mean, what kind of country would we be if we dragged our torturers through the spectacle of a trial? What sort of respect would we command if we couldn't protect our truest, most zealous patriots?
In case it isn't clear, this was sarcasm in the extreme.
And in case that last statement got missed, there's this: :sarcasm:

8. America practices, condones, codifies and enshrines torture. |

Remember the shock at Abu Ghraib.
Look in the mirror, America.
You are official torturers now.

As long as they are properly painted as a "threat," any American is fair game too. I suspect that includes all of us here at DU.

The White House, OLC and intelligence agencies all acted in good faith? Yeah right.
Note how these stories tend to shift blame to the public. As if the public is at fault for wondering why US officials sanctioned a torture program. Such ingratitude.

Regardless of the crime!
Nobody in authority ever does anything wrong (unless they buck the system).
Nobody ever gets indicted.
Nobody ever gets punished.

9. The thing is, abuses usually don't get prosecuted until the previous regime is out of power |

And unfortunately, it isn't.

12. There's a troublesome thought. |

Torture will be legal so long as Obama is in the White House - and will likely be prosecuted when he's not.
I'm not a single issue voter, but on the topic of torture, I'm close.

14. Who is to say that the next person won't also be a apart of the problem? |
|
I certainly don't think any of the repub candidates will do anything about Bushco's crimes, and I don't think they will prosecute Holder or Obama either for rights violations and torture. They will be just as happy to keep the whole farce going.
Frankly I have pretty much given up hope that ANYONE elected to the POTUS will do anything. There is just too much in the way of anyone with the guts and conviction needed to do that.

15. I think Republicans hate Democrats more than they love torture. |
|
“He piled upon the whale’s white hump the sum of all the general rage and hate felt by his whole race from Adam down; and then, as if his chest had been a mortar, he burst his hot heart’s shell upon it.”
They're obviously willing to shoot themselves in the foot if it means wounding their adversary.

|
And I have yet to see all of those promised 'investigations' into Obama turn up anything, or even any show hearings. I just think that they all are in the same bed together on Torture and spying.
