Hey! Remember when Obama caved on the Budget talks and the Pubs got everything? |
|
Numerous people predicted it here on DU, went on and on for days. Then when the deal was reached the Repubs and Tea Baggers partied up a storm and were just elated! Remember?!

It was predicted that he would cave, in fact cave posts dominated the General Discussion page.

but perhaps he just undertook an extensive study of the DU archives in these past three weeks.

6. I remember getting a tax increase on my pathetically meager income.. |
|
While millionaires and billionaires got a major tax cut.. I guess that's Obama's idea of "shared sacrifice"? http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/08/us/politics/08impact.htmlAlthough the $120 billion payroll tax reduction offers nearly twice the tax savings of the credit it replaces, it will nonetheless lead to higher tax bills for individuals with incomes below $20,000 and families that make less than $40,000. That is because their payroll tax savings are less than the $400 or $800 they will lose from the Making Work Pay credit.
“It will come to a few dollars a week,” said Roberton Williams, an analyst at the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, “but it is an increase.”

19. As an unemployed person, I think he did the WRONG thing passing the Bush tax cuts! |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-07-11 01:16 PM by cascadiance
Even if it jerked away unemployment benefits from me, ultimately, we will all lose a lot more by having given fuel with more debt from not getting revenue to cut that much more from us later as they are SUCCEEDING in doing now!
And to top it off, America will blame Obama for it, and sorry to say, RIGHTLY so, since he now "owns" those tax cuts, and took away from the Republicans having to "own" not giving unemployment extensions that they would have been blamed for had they had to pass them when they took over.
And now without the one shot the Dems had at increasing revenue then, we'll also get blamed for the debt, and the failing economy too to boot!
Come on Obama, start LEADING and find that spirit of FDR in you. Quit listening to Rahm and all of the other corporatists on the hill that want to bury this country for their own selfish gains!

20. No. I remember that the republicans claimed they'd been snookered. |
|
None of the so-called billions in cuts were actually cuts. They were crying that they had been played. And they were. But that doesn't stop the revisionist history going on around here. After all, it's been declared that Obama caves on everything so therefore, everything he's done up to now has been re-classed as a "cave". Even the social security cuts - which, I might add, have not actually happened yet, but why let a small detail like that get in the way of the downer brigade.
