1. It's a lie. Almost every poll I've seen has jobs/economy as the

most important issue among a large majority of Americans.

I know quite a few Republicans and Independents and NO ONE ever talks about the debt or deficit - people are mostly concerned about the economy, their own jobs (or lack of) and their property values.
