in response to 'ongoing retlentless persecution', building owner will change color
Edited on Fri Jul-08-11 03:50 PM by Liberal_in_LA
I kinda like the color. Note, the community didn't like the name either

Pizza Orgasmica‘s epic battle with San Rafael has been the story that never ends. Back in January, the community objected to the name itself, which you’ll recall spurred hand-wringing fears of “tacos fellatio.” Then, they objected to the color of the yellow and green facade, which prompted graffiti terrorism from competitors Extreme Pizza.

Now it’s July, they are still fighting about the paint color, even though the restaurant has been open for months. But finally, Pizza Orgasmica owner Taylor Maia has thrown his hands up in the air and will change the facade, but not before voicing his complaints about how he’s been subject to “ongoing relentless persecution.” From Marinscope:

“It was a waste of time,” Maia said, adding that he was not going to appeal the Planning Commission’s decision and would go along with a lighter, flatter shade of yellow. He said he would be adding a neutral color — “any color the city wants” — to the three panels behind the building in the parking lot area. “It does not matter to us.”

Well, then. And that’s the end of that chapter.

1. We deal with this stuff on a regular basis.
The snobs in town hate anything except beige, gray, or white. I live in a tropical place. A sprinkling of tropical, happy colors is appropriate. Several years ago, we had a long-awaited completion of a bridge, which was painted a light pink, not garish at all. The outcry was so loud that the powers-that-be relented and repainted it a pinkish beige, barely any difference, but it satisfied the conservative folks, who were associating pink with feminine. It cost several hundred thousand taxpayer dollars to repaint. We're now going through the same thing with a restaurant, located at a major intersection. The building was vacant and deteriorating for at least a decade. The new owners got city council approval of the exterior color scheme, which is fun and suitably tropical. Oh, the outcry! The owners have gotten a reprieve, but it will cost over a hundred grand to repaint if it's required.

6. Is there ANY more PETTY form of fascism than telling others what color they can PAINT stuff???
That restaurant was such an improvement over the dirty-looking buildings visible with it in the picture that THEY should all be required to paint their places like the pizza place if any coercion at all need be involved.
