The Lost Story in the News: "Obama threatened to take it to the American People"
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 07:32 PM by FreakinDJ
That is why Cantor ran out of the meeting claiming Obama "Lost his Temper" when in fact White House Aids claim the President "Lectured" the Jr GOP representative he would not accept any "Short Term Plan"

Additionally President Obama claimed "I will take this to the American People"

Some thing clearly the GOP caucus doesn't want.

The American Public has repeatedly stated through numerous polling they want the "Tax Loopholes Closed" and the Wealthy to Pay More to close the Deficit. Additionally the White House aid claimed "tomorrows meeting will be about Increasing Revenue" some thing the RATpubliCONs have refused to discuss

let see who shows up

2. I just e-mailed the WH and to say We support him for
standing up to the Republicans on this issue - and thank you!

It seems I'm always firing off e-mails bitching about something, so thought it would only be fair to send him a positive one. :7

7. Why - they been polled like 19 times already
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 07:43 PM by FreakinDJ
by every renown research firm out there - each and every time a resounding "Tax the Rich"

What you think they'll change their mind and say "Sure take my social security dollars, spend them on Wealthy Tax Breaks and Foreign Wars and then kick me and I'm Old"

In the June 9 ABC News poll 61% of Americans believe higher taxes will be necessary to reduce the deficit, and 57% of those polled said that deficit reduction should include both tax increases and spending cuts.

A Pew poll found that more people blame the nation’s involvement in wars than tax cuts or spending for the deficit. The poll also found wide support for increasing taxes, as 67% said the more high earners income should be subject to being taxed for Social Security, and 66% support raising taxes on incomes over $250,000, and 62% support closing corporate tax loopholes.

A Bloomberg poll taken in May found that only 33% of those surveyed thought that it would be possible to lower the deficit without raising taxes, 64% expressed the belief that it isn’t possible to lower the deficit without raising taxes.

An April CBS News/NY Times poll showed that 72% of people favored raising taxes on the wealthy in order to reduce the deficit. A March NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that 81% of those surveyed would support a tax on millionaires that would be used for deficit reduction, and 68% supported eliminating the Bush tax cuts on those who make over $250,000.

10. Perfect answer.
What I love most is that we even like it the way Cantor tried to spin it. Cantor loses no matter what and we the people win.

12. Yep - RATpubliCONs have a lot more to loose
once the looming default date gets closer and the remaining 35% of the American Voting public wakes up and starts to pay atention to the details. Pelosi was in the news yesterday claiming "The Devil is in the details"

17. Well, sure.
In BoehnerMcConnellCantor-speak, the phrase "American people" means these guys:

Chances are Obama has someone else in mind when he uses that particular phrase.

19. The MSM is like a snake pit. Obama needs to learn to get his message through.
Other Democratic presidents have succeeded in outsmarting the corporate media that tries to paint them one way, when they are really another. Right now, the press has this mantra. "You are poor because Obama does not care." Every word they write or say about the economy is intended to reinforce this message. Part of a politician's job is to overcome this obstacle. FDR did it. LBJ did it. Clinton did it. Can Obama do it? I do not see much political savvy from this WH right now.

20. He's doing okay on that score.
The Obama administration is, I think, leading the way in finding ways around MSM. In my lifetime, and I remember Harry Truman, no othr president has had to deal with a MSM whose ownership is solidly on one side of the political spectrum. I'd guess that Ike might have had a glimmer of media involvement in his cautions against the military/industrial complex, but doubt that he could have dreamed that technology changes would bring that involvement so quickly to the core of that unholy alliance. With the media ownership regulations being so drastically changed over the last couple of decades, the consolidation of voices (and pages) found the MSM very nearly a mere extension of the RNC. We can be thankful for the Obama administration's often ridiculed nerdiness, cyber-media and the blogosphere being embraced as one of the saving graces that kept us out of the potentially permanent clutches of those who installed W in the Oval Office. We might someday return to the possibility of a Liberal Media Bias. Until then, I'm thankful for Obama's repeated end runs around a media dedicated to fulfilling the ambitions of his opponents.

26. "Taking it to the people" is precisely the way Obama could have gotten LOTS accomplished.
I often see people on this board ask "How do you propose Obama could have gotten anything done with the Republicans opposing everything!?"

Well, here is your answer. Now that it is in front of your face, do you recognize the truth of it?

All the things that are overwhelmingly supported by the people but opposed by the Republicans could be accomplished in a similar fashion.

The question then becomes, of course, why did he NOT "take it to the American people" for:

Health care
Defunding wars
Serious jobs programs
Bush tax cut extensions

32. If he knows what we want why does he pussyfoot arpound like this?
The talk of cuts in SS and Medicare coming from him make me very very nervous. Are you telling me it's the multi-dimensional chessboard and brinksmanship here?

If so, I hope you're right because the alternative is he really means to cut these programs.
