No difference in women's and men's self-esteem in youth and early adulthood
Self-esteem increases during adolescence, then slows in young adulthood, but contrary to popular belief, there is no significant difference between men's and women's self-esteem during either of those life phases, according to research published by the American Psychological Association.

Rather, this is interesting and worthy of discussion.

5. Differences:

1. OP's - adolescents and young adults. Yours - children.

2. OP's - overall self-esteem. Yours - self(maybe) esteem regarding school work. Boys may feel that boys are less likely to do good school work because they feel that it is not important.

6. Not necessarily. Self esteem comes from many sources.
The paragraph you linked to specifies 'girls believe they are better than boys AT SCHOOL.' Boys, OTOH, think they are stronger, faster, smarter (yes, there is a disconnect between 'smart' and 'school'). Girls are better at following directions than boys - boys get more rewards for NOT following directions. Girls get self esteem from their looks - boys get self esteem from having better toys.

The article is about tracking self-esteem trajectories, regardless of the source of the self-esteem.
