Obama needs to do more press conferences
Yes, he exposes himself more to the effects of the media (positive and negative), but as I watch him, he comes across as caring sincerely about the welfare of the American public, and not just the rich.

Would more press conferences be helpful or harmful to his presidency ? What do you think ?

1. Probably be a positive.
He has to make his case and if he doesn't, he abdicates his message to others.

2. I loved how he smacked down Chuckles Todd. Todd never learns..
He always trys to get the president with a gotcha and it always backfires on him. The president always shines in this forum. So, yes. He should do them more often. My guess is that the reason he doesn't do them more often is because he has little patience with the 'chuckles todds' in the press corps.

5. Chuckie needs to learn how to ask questions rather than advocate positions.

15. I agree, with friends like NBC who needs enemies? Did you hear how they started the conference?
Chuck and the other guy swearing that President Obama isn't needed in this discussion because the Republicans are taking care of everything away from the official meetings. That's some awesome liberal media.

20. I have felt for some time that
Chuck Toad would fit in well at Fox. He must think he is a real He-man type pundit. Sort of reminds me of Eric Cantor.

to go to fox.

3. I tend to agree -- unfortunately, folks will pick apart everything he says or doesn't say.

10. They already do.
And when there's nothing to pick apart, they make shit up.

The more exposure people have to the source material - and not the filters of pundits - the better off we'd be.

16. He was specifically asked about raising the retirement age...
and he said that they had considered doing that.

That's why the thread covering it just about blew up, because it was confirmation from his mouth that the news stories are right.

This is a sly form of benefit cuts, and if the news stories about it are right, and they were right about it being considered...they want to push it to 67!

That's not something all workers can handle. Can you imagine working at a really physically demanding job your whole life until you're 67? Even with health care advancements, that's not going to happen for a long damn time. People just break down, even with those technologies in those kinds of jobs.

And realistically, for those kinds of jobs, it actually happens much earlier than 65.
So people really will be hurt by that.

11. and he support 3 free trade agreements to create jobs
the only sticking point is funding for people that will lose jobs once they pass. Understand that?

He sounded to me like a guy that has had so many different agreements on the table, he can't remember where they are and what has and hasn't been offered today. In other words they aren't very close to a deal. I think I get what he really wants, and what he'll accept but where we are going? Could be anywhere, they don't appear to be close.

7. It would be a positive for the reasons you suggest.
But he needs to bring a couple of charts to help explain to the viewers why we need to tax the top earners.

Then, as the media talking heads review his pressers they'd also be replaying those charts.

You know, tax rates, where the wealth is, charts like that.

8. His command was excellent, if that's the only way he can control the message I say more, please!
Loved his tone to Chuck, it's exactly the tone I used when my kids would keep on disobeying and they needed that message that told them they were pushing their luck.
