Never Mind the Ceiling! Raise the Floor!
Edited on Mon Jul-18-11 03:22 PM by Derechos
The phony debt ceiling crisis is an excuse to cut human services. But there can be no excuse for cutting Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid. Those of us not in the Forbes 400 need a stronger civil society, not a weaker one. We need the floor raised, and our representatives keep staring at the ceiling.

Please send our message to your elected officials. You'll have the option to add your own story or the story of people you know. Have you seen any trouble more serious than having to sell your third yacht or pay taxes on your private jet? We're looking for the stories the corporate media miss. We might feature yours on the website.

Send our message to Congress and the President, and please feel free to edit the letter to add your own story.

See link for request to sign petition urging Congress and the White House to protect our social safety net.

but actually cutting muscle. We are revenue starved. Colburn's plan "Back to Black" calls for increasing the age for Medicare at 67. Why?

Not a word about increasing tax rates for the ultra wealthy. You are cutting into muscle, this spending for elderly is necessary. Not negotiable.

Edit: It shouldn't be. Democrats of 30 yrs ago would never consider it, even 20 yrs ago.

2. If the ceiling is too low raising the floor only allows people with less
height in.

3. I won't support or vote for any pol who cuts soc sec or
medicare in any way, increasing the age, decreasing the payouts, etc. Under no circumstances will I vote for such a politician. Ever again. If the party supports it, I will leave the party.

All Romney needs to do to get my vote at this point is promise to reverse any soc sec or medicare cuts that Obama signs off on. He is just as reliable on this issue as Obama, if not better.
