Liz Warren kicking ass on Rachel!!
Good grief - she is showing her moxy HUGE!!

Yes, she wanted the job. She lays the blame squarely at the feet of the Republicans doing everything they can think of to kill the agency - and said it is their fault that she would never be able to lead it. The agency is more important to her than the opportunity to lead it.

GOD I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!! :applause:

There was such a defiance in her eyes that they simply sparkled.

I hope she does take that vacation with her grandkids and rest up. Something tells me she is just getting started.

The glass ceiling is broken, Barack Obama shattered that. I don't know if that is the right phrase to use but the 235 year 'good old white boy' hold on our Presidency is no longer. The next step is to elect a woman to the office. I'd love to see Elizabeth Warren in the oval office. Can I go ahead and place my vote early, like now?

Well maybe not better as she's a very capable woman who dearly loves what America is supposed to do. The grand mother in her would make damn sure whatever we did would have our grand children in mind. That would pretty much fix our problems if the pol's would worry about the world they're leaving behind we wouldn't be in this mess.

Not many people in the position to be a next president who has the everyday joes and janes closest to their heart than her. I'm not sure there is anyone that even comes close. Personally I'd like to see more women in our elected offices. Being a mother and/or grand mother does something to these girls that would be good for our country.

Sometimes, defeating "evil doers", takes the WILL (as opposed to just the political SKILL) to inflict blunt-force trauma to their collective heads; its the only rebuke they understand. The Dems, I think, know all too well what that feels like, and maybe because of it have too much empathy for the wrong sets of people.

just my opinion, others are always welcome.

I paraphrased her response. The fire in her eyes when she was expressing what she has gone through trying to keep the Republican party at bay over this was stunning. You could tell that she really believes in this agency and is energized by the fight for it.

Video should be up on msnbc in a few hours if someone doesn't post it to YouTube first. I can't WAIT to watch it again.

16. Did she want the job that was just awarded to someone else? Or
was she referring to the job of setting up the agency (as she did)?

I'm one of the ones who was under the impression (NYT? Can't remember where I read it...) that she didn't want the full-time "real" gig, she really wanted to get back to teaching at Harvard.

Did I misread her (highly likely) or did she change her mind?

Thanks! Missed Rachel so I won't be able to watch until the wee hours when they replay it.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/18/republican-opposition-to-elizabeth-warren_n_902165.html

Obama, while often publicly praising Warren, was never committed to nominating her as head of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection.

The internal debate that led to President Barack Obama passing her over as head of the agency, commonly known as the CFPB, pitted one set of advisers -- longtime confidantes Valerie Jarrett and David Axelrod -- against the trio of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, and current Chief of Staff William Daley.

Jarrett and Axelrod supported Warren, not least because of the impact she’d have on the Democratic Party’s liberal base, sources said. Geithner, Emanuel and Daley opposed the idea because of a variety of factors, both personal and political.

Emanuel took the temperature of the administration on Warren's nomination and reported back to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that it was cool, according to Senate sources with knowledge of the call.

“We don’t like her either,” the then-White House chief of staff told the Nevada Democrat.

She made it clear the Republican obstructionists were the impediment. Never once did she state that it was never her intention in the first place to take a permanent role. That was a perfect time and opportunity to clarify and confirm that and say "It was never my desire." It would have removed a lot of speculation. She didn't.

Elizabeth Warren Didn't Want Permanent Appointment To CFPB: Frank
First Posted: 09-16-10 04:06 PM | Updated: 09-16-10 04:15 PM

Elizabeth Warren made it clear to the White House while it was debating her nomination to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that she was not interested in a five-year term to run the agency. Barney Frank, a Warren ally, delivered that message to the White House, he told HuffPost in an interview Thursday.

"She always said she didn't want to be there as a permanent director. Some of the liberals are worried about it. It's almost an insult to Elizabeth. She wouldn't take this if there was the slightest impediment to her doing the job," he said.

35. "Republican Opposition To Elizabeth Warren Allows White House To Duck Uncomfortable Questions"
WASHINGTON -- "Thanks to united Republican opposition to Elizabeth Warren as the permanent head of the consumer protection agency she dreamed up and shepherded through Congress, the administration is largely able to avoid the uncomfortable discussion about just how much support she had within the White House."

Obama, while often publicly praising Warren, was never committed to nominating her as head of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, people familiar with the internal decision-making process said. There were a variety of factors holding her up, from the administration's perception that she was prone to speaking her mind publicly -- even if her position contrasted with that of the administration’s -- to the intense opposition she generated from Democrats and Republicans in Congress, and from certain parts of the financial services industry.

Ultimately, it was Obama’s call. Sources said an anecdote about a 2010 meeting provides clues to Obama’s thinking.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/18/republican-opposition-to-elizabeth-warren_n_902165.html

I remember when she criticized Obama's Credit Card "Reform" bill. She was right. Bernie Sanders had presented a much better bill that was actually fair to consumers & put a stop to usury.

Love Liz Warren.

41. 'We don't like her either'....said Rahm

Last July, the night before a Senate vote on the administration-backed bill to reform financial regulation, Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) told reporters that he was still unsure how he’d vote and was concerned about who might be named to run the soon-to-be-created consumer unit.

Hearing the news, Emanuel took the temperature of the administration on Warren's nomination and reported back to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that it was cool, according to Senate sources with knowledge of the call.

“We don’t like her either,” the then-White House chief of staff told the Nevada Democrat.

Ultimately, it was Obama’s call. Sources said an anecdote about a 2010 meeting provides clues to Obama’s thinking.

Last summer, during a White House meeting with first-term Senate Democrats, Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont, asked Obama whether he'd nominate Warren for the role.

Obama held up a half-full glass of water and told him: "That's the problem with you progressives. You see this as half-empty."

Elizabeth Warren has never been reported by anyone that I've heard as "Liz" and your taking that leeway upon yourself is disrespectful in my opinion. Just a thought.

63. Perhaps, but when I saw "liz," I just
thought how f'ing disrespectful! But as explained my daughter fights this all the time, so do Jonathon's, and Williams, and so many others. Just struck me that on the one hand trying to laud Elizabeth Warren, and on the other being entirely careless with her desire to be called Elizabeth, since not one talking head nor article nor nothing has been calling her "liz," indicating to me that it isn't what she want's to be called.

45. So, she DID want the job!
Post after post by the Cheer Squad INSISTING that she did not want the job when she clearly did. She was the logical choice. Now, if someone with a backbone would have just fought for her . . .

52. There won't be any backpeddling.
They will simply ignore that they were dead fucking wrong
and spamming DU with baseless dis-information,
and pretend the whole thing never happened.

59. Do the math
Would have never happened no matter how much backbone was involved.

I really hope she runs for Senate. I think she would win and be a great asset. And although she won't lead the agency, she certainly is not a woman who will be silenced -- thankfully.

75. So I caught her interview yesterday, I got goosebumps! We desperately need Liz Warren out in front.
I think she could pull off a successfull Senate campaign against Brown.
