Five "democrats" voted for the draconian cut and cap measure. They are:
Dan Boren (OK-2)
Jim Cooper (D - TN).
Jim Matheson (D-Utah)
Mike McIntyre (D – NC)
Heath Shuler (D - NC|)

These are the kinds of "democrats" that need to be burned into our conscious and defeated.

These are the kinds of "democrats" that give folks pause to ask..."what is the difference between the two parties?"

These are the kinds of "democrats" we have to target.

1. Given that roster of states, I'd say it's fortunate the Dems have those seats at all.
Primary them out - see how fast those seats flip to the GOP.

3. If Dems like this vote with the GOP, there is not much value in them
sitting in their seats pretending to be Democrats. May as well try to get real Democrats in those positions.

21. It's all ABOUT seat count.
Unless you LIKE having a GOP Speaker (and I'm not suggesting you do).

31. You might have a point in the Senate.
Edited on Wed Jul-20-11 04:15 PM by ooglymoogly
but the loss of five seats in the house does not make it any worse than it is, especially when those house seats are Dino's and vote pug anyway.

One has to choose the evil he supports carefully.

Sleeping with the devil for nothing but a charade, just does not make any sense and sells the Democratic party and its principals down the river.

4. Wrong about Cooper in Nashville
I was surprised to see his name on there actually. But this town is pretty progressive. More progressive than Jimmy is.

name on this. I think he was my rep at one time.

32. One of my contacts said his COS told him
(my contact) that he did it because he knew it wasn't going anywhere and he wanted to show the Republicans that he was willing to work with them. So, it was a symbolic vote. Yet when I asked him TO HIS FACE why he didn't vote for or support the People's Budget he said that it didn't have any chance of passing. IOW, he was willing to take a "symbolic" vote on a CRUEL budget, but he wasn't on one that was fairer AND BALANCED THE BUDGET FASTER.

What bullshit. We're going to have to see what redistricting brings, but ole Jim will probably have a primary challenger.

5. Two of them are from NC. NC voted for Obama.
Obviously you're not going to get a Jim McDermott elected there, but Shuler in particular is as useless on Capitol Hill as he was across town at RFK. :eyes:

12. Aside from Asheville, Western and Middle NC are VERY conservative areas.
Liberal regions are fairly limited in NC to Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Durham/Raleigh, and Asheville/Boone. Otherwise, you need to remember that NC used to be home to Jesse Helms and tends to be conservative, particularly in rural regions to the middle and west.

the Asheville area (Buncombe, Madison, Haywood and Henderson counties) is full of conservatives and those "independent" mountain folk not loyal to any particular party. At least that's my take on it.

McIntyre was up against that lunatic Ilario Pantano in 2010, to give folks an idea of what's going on at the other end of the state.

30. It isn't important who he represents...
...it's who WILL he represent after the recent redistricting.

And while his existing district was not a blue stronghold... his new one will be particularly difficult to run in (as a D).

6. What the hell is the diff. It gives the Dem's a bad name and makes
them synonymous with the pugs. They are just Trojan horses and a danger to the party. Better to take our lumps and have a real, true to our ideals, Democratic party.

7. The ones in NC likely will flip to the GOP
Haven't had too much time to check out the new Pug redistricting maps, but do know David Price and Brad Miller, both real Dems, have been put in the same district. Brad may consider moving to another district so he & David won't have to run against one another.

The Pug takeover of our legislature last November is going to destroy NC for generations.

I'm rather shocked at Jim Cooper, though a more conservative Dem, he usually shows some sense.
This is unfortunate.

Boren isn't running for re-election...Shuler has a real fight on his hands with the Tea Baggers putting up a candidate to run against him...not sure who the other 3 are...but it's fair to say they are the last of the Blue Dogs that did so well in the last election...

26. Mr. Kucinich has stated that he is considering moving out of Ohio to run for Congress in
another state. The OP seems to think that these Blue Dog Democrats need to be defeated. A Kucinich candidacy in one of these districts would be a win-win, unless you fall for the corporatist DLC neo-con Blue Dog conservadem DINO meme that only moderate Democrats can win in these districts.
