A guy I know from Wisconsin said his parent's area up there had a heat index of 116 this Sunday. Here in LA (lower Alabama) our high that day was 85. It's only 87 outside today. Good luck with the heat folks.

7. It's only 78.2 there right now according to Weather Underground.
I'm less than 150 miles from there, so your weather has been similar to ours most of the time. We have had a ton of rain lately that has cooled things down, but that has also increased humidity.

16. Car and porch thermometer hit 100 around 12pm, just had a t-storm
dropped it about 4 degrees so now we're gulping water filled, hot air.

+100 forecast all week until Monday, 104 for tomorrow.

17. Right now, the temperature is 75 here in North Georgia
because of the recent rain storms this afternoon. It is a relief for a while until the heat starts up again tomorrow. The humidity does not bother me that much as I lived in South Florida most of my life with humidity levels of 100% or more.

We have had 100+ for 24 out of the last 27 days. There is a little relief in sight. Saturday and Sunday are forecast to only reach 99.

3. The heat index here in Chicago is at least 110 right now.
Yesterday it was 96 in the south suburbs but it was only in the 70's down by the lake and that caused a blinding fog to form, which caused them to close all the beaches.

4. Today it's hotter by the lakeshore ...
That almost never happens, but I just heard it on the radio: 98 at O'Hare, 99 at Midway (I think), and 100 at the lakeshore.

Hope you stay cool.

10. Yesterday, it was so cool by the lakeshore, and so hot everywhere else
that there was this eerie and spectacular fog that blanketed the shore. I was biking from my internship in River Forest to the lakefront trail, and it looked like there was a fire downtown once I got close enough to see that part of the city. When I finally got to the lakefront trail, I could barely see in front of me and some beaches were closed because of the fog. The temps were much cooler by the lake yesterday - it was only about 75 degrees in the afternoon, under all that fog. Today is a completely different story.

Ah, Chicago!

5. On the other side of the spectrum, in Portland Oregon
it's been a cool-to-moderate spring/summer with cloudy, rainy days FAR outnumbering sunny days. Crops are late coming in from lack of sunshine. You could count the days where the temp has been over 75 on 2 hands.

Longing for warm sunshine....

12. We're now feeling effects of Global Warming post-1960 ....
there was a 50 year delay in our feeling the effects --

though the glaciers seem to have begun to melt in the 1940's ---

Scientists were predicting in 90's some glaciers falling in 10 years --

2 months later, they were gone!!

Last glacier that fell was the size of Manhattan --

The heat we are feeling will only increase now -- and when the glaciers are gone it

will be even more severe --

Think of all we have done since 1960!!!! -- ????

Also understand that glacier melting creates earthquakes -- which will increase in

number and severity --

Earthquakes generate more volcanic activity --

Global Warming has the power to change weather systems -- that has already happened --

and it will continue to do so --

IMO, this is one of the most important secrets corporate/fascism is in a frenzy to keep

covered up --

26. I'm afraid that sciencey facts won't matter soon as it snows next january.
Your average consumer/voter in the most consumptive country in the world is now convinced, by last year's snow, that the world's scientist have been wrong for decades. Not just talking sh*t, I know some people like this, I wish I didn't..
I feel 100 percent sure that by the time Mr. & Mrs. Average are snowed in for the weekend next year they'll be a lot more worried about what's on tv than about :gasp: The Future.. "oooo the wacky fuuuture of that plannnet Earth thing that the silly people are always upset about."

32. Consider all we did after 1960 ... I don't think it's possible anyone
could ignore this --

Rather, the cover up goes on and on -- black out on connecting anything

to Global Warming or connecting any dots.

Agree too many sit in front of their TVs confident that if there were anything

really wrong the Host/Anchor would let them know!!

We've had temps in the 90's here in NJ beginning in May --

We're going to 104 degrees tomorrow -

Everything will begin to accelerate even faster now --

:(

ExxonMobil wins!!

back to Oklahoma with me when I left NJ last week :(
It was hot most of my trip home last week, though I think I suffered only because it's so damn hot on the Southern Plains that no one spends any time outside anymore.

May and June were hot and dry, while the normally hot and dry month of July has been wet and cool. Makes no sense.

though i see an apple.

it has been miserable. went by kids school. it is relatively new. middle school, park then elementary. they always had beautiful lawn. it is dry and dying. the upside. people just are not watering, not wanting to waste the water for a lost cause. that is good to see. once a week, so isnt dead. but not green

Come on, September!

However, the mornings, until this week, have been pleasant, not like the usual "open the door & step into the oven" feeling which is the norm during the summer.

33. How far South ... ? Florida ... ?? Texas .. ?
And there's a drought across 14 states -- fires in Tx -- and ... was it CA again?

At one point it looked like every other state was flooding!

Imo, we need to get the nuclear reactors shut down -- about two in every state --

and it takes 6 months to properly shut them down -- don't know if that includes

the waste!!

28. Ah... Hi neighbor.
I live in Mississippi. Yeah, the heat here has been unrelenting. The sun we got on a canoe trip yesterday took us to the emergency room last night with second degree burns and dehydration. WE're on the couch now, our legs, chest, and arms being a color somewhat resembling magenta. And that was with sunscreen. We'll be living the vampire lifestyle for the next week - avoiding the sun at all cost while we recuperate. But, anyway, it gave me time to read more at this forum than I've ever had time to, and I decided to join.

...It was 97º today. Even now, at 6:30 p.m., it is 90º with 61% humidity and a heat index of 101º.

The only time we've had highs below 95º in the last few months have been days with continual cloud cover and rain.

30. I'm not in the deep south, zone 7b, according to the map...
It was hotter than Hades in late June/early July, but we've had thunderstorms that broke the heat a little bit this past week. I would love the rain without the wind, lightening, hail, etc. At 7 this morning it was 84 and the heat index was 91.

It's been thundering and lightening here, without the rain and it is so humid it's ridiculous.

I know what you mean, it's been strange for me to see triple digit temps. in places that I usually think of as cold, while we're getting a break here. A slight break, but a break non the less. :hi:
