Obama and Boehner Close to Major Budget Deal, Officials Say

The Obama administration has informed Democratic Congressional leaders that President Obama and Speaker John A. Boehner were starting to close in on a major budget deal that would enact substantial spending cuts and seek future revenues through a tax overhaul, Congressional officials said Thursday.

With the government staring at a potential default in less than two weeks, the officials said the administration on Wednesday night notified top members of Congress that a bargain with Mr. Boehner could be imminent. The Congressional leaders, whose help Mr. Obama would need to bring a compromise forward, were told that the new revenue tied to the looming agreement to increase the debt limit by Aug. 2 would be produced in 2012 through a tax code rewrite that would lower individual and corporate rates, close loopholes, end tax breaks and make other adjustments to produce revenue gains.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House denied on Thursday a New York Times report that President Barack Obama and Republican House of Representatives speaker John Boehner were close to a deal to cut the deficit and raise the debt limit.

"We are not close to a deal," White House spokesman Jay Carney said. Discussions were ongoing, he and other officials said.

Regarding the GOP far right:

"The ol' Cracker thought a while, chewing his "tobacky," leaned forward in his creaking porch rocker, and loosed a brown stream some fifteen feet into an empty, now-wobbling coffee can. He wiped his brown-stained beard, sat back and gazed at his anxious grandson:

'Dem boy' in charge.'"

6. I just said that to His Honor, but it's got to pass the House
and Senate and there are some strident voices there, so even when we hear the Plan, it's not over. I'm just grateful I got my blood pressure medication refilled yesterday -- seriously!! :hi:

we'll just have to wait and see what they present, and if it will pass.

side of the house, and that cannot be a good thing considering the absolute unwillingness of those sob's to compromise on anything. Our one hope will be for the senate to stop whatever makes it out of the house, if something does indeed make it out.

As a good friend would say...total fuckshow.

18. There are those in the House (Repubs) who swear they won't
vote on anything that even whispers "tax cut" so it may never make it to the Senate.

What a mess.

I totally hold the Republicans responsible. Little children playing games, only concerned about their win.

21. I know! Until we hear from The Man (or The Men) we're left
hanging. Don't know how soon after an "agreement" they can make a statement -- if they are going to run it by their people first.

Once again, we're on pins and needles.
