Ralph Reed's Anti-Union Wisconsin Gambit


Okay, time to play "connect the dots," right-wing edition. In the Upper MidWest Province of Kochistan -- otherwise known as Wisconsin, most active and powerful among the right-wing entities that helped elect a gang of government-slashing, union-bashing goons is Americans for Prosperity, the astroturf group founded by David Koch. AFP's president is Tim Phillips, business partner with Ralph Reed in a consulting firm called Century Strategies.

Are ya with me so far?

Ralph Reed is the freakishly boyish, ruthlessly brilliant electoral strategist who, in its heyday, served at the executive director of the Rev. Pat Robertson's Christian Coalition. Reed left the Coalition just before it fell onto hard times to found Century Strategies, where he was implicated, though never charged, in the Jack Abramoff bribery scandal. But I digress.

Reed's latest venture is his Faith and Freedom Coalition, which seeks to meld the voters of the religious right with those of the Tea Party to create one right-wing electoral juggernaut. Perhaps a clearer way to state this is that Reed seeks to use the existing network of politicized evangelical churches to push out the Koch-propelled message of small government, low taxes, and the evils of organized labor.
