The benefit of a doubt.
Ok, here it is. I'm giving the President and the Dems a benefit of the doubt.

I posted a while back that I was not going to vote for Democrats who vote against SS and Medicare. That thread got locked because it advocated not voting for Dems. I replied that I would rather vote for Democratic Party ideals than shills who are nothing more than moderate GOPers.

I stand by my decision and I will not vote for Democrats who attack SS and Medicare. That doesn't mean that I'll vote Republican.

Here I am with this whole "debt ceiling" debate. It's frustrating watching as the banter plays out. I watched as the money from SS and Medicare taxes was spent to fund a couple wars that did nothing to advance this country. I watched as Republicans spent and cut and then left power by handing over an annual interest cost of more than $600,000,000,000 after sabotaging the economy and crippling the federal governments ability to collect reasonable revenue. The self-acclaimed "conservatives" of the right sat around and did NOTHING as the private sector was demolished and the bankers sucked a few trillions of dollars out of the economy through fraud, deceit and general malfeasance.

After all of that, the stage was set to falsely blame the social programs. Social safety nets and social spending that have been around for the majority of the last century. Programs that have been very successful and wildly popular. I have no problem with monitoring and adjusting these programs. Waste and fraud exist and should be acted upon, however, this is not the carte blanche to destroy these programs like the right-wing wants. In some cases, it means providing more to these programs to ensure that they meet their goals. But I digress as I'm want to do.

So, here it is. I'm giving the Democrats the benefit of the doubt, mostly because there is little that I can personally do at this point. If they let me down in these budget talks.

I support President Obama and the other Democrats. Now I just hope that they return the favor and act like the representatives of the People that they are supposed to be. If not, then 2012 might just have to be a recruitment year as we take a few hits in order to get real Democrats working under true Democratic Party ideals.
