That's 50 million Americans who are very active in politics who the President wants to bullfight with in pursuit of his "Grand Deal" with Boehner.

That's it. There is no punchline. That's my Hope and Change from 2008 come to roost. Would I be overly dramatic to state that's a pretty big fucking let-down? The dude winds up picking fights with AARP, my Democratic senator, my Democratic representative- even the Executive Director of the ACLU says the President's civil liberties and anti-terror policies disgust him.

Obama needs to clean his act up. But he won't.

1. I think this is all a huge ruse by both parties to privatize SS & Medicare
Remember how people used to shit themselves when Bush or McCain would talk about vouchers, etc?

This Democratic terror-talk will make the GOP plans look good by comparison

11. Oh, click on the links! They're aiming the rhetoric squarely at the President as well as Congress.
I didn't think they'd fire up the ass-kicking machine this quickly! Good.

3. I think we should all just calm down and wait until...
Social Security has been irretrievably destroyed beyond all hope of reinstating it before we decide if Obama is really on our side or not.

5. I don't trust AARP. Remember their betrayal of their membership
WRT Part D? They lost a LOT of dues-paying members over that fiasco, and they never got a lot of them back.

Refresher: http://www.commondreams.org/scriptfiles/views03/1124-07.htm

It's probably why they're taking this stance; because they understand the sense of their membership. What they're saying behind closed doors might be something entirely different, though. Read this, and know that AARP aren't always as straightforward as their commercials make them seem to be:
http://thehill.com/blogs/healthwatch/other/167125-aarp-says-some-social-security-cuts-acceptable

An excerpt:

AARP says some Social Security cuts could be acceptable

By Erik Wasson - 06/17/11 02:14 PM ET

AARP insisted Friday it has not changed its position on Social Security, but acknowledged it could back some benefits cuts for future seniors to preserve the program.

In a statement, the nation’s largest lobbying group for seniors said it could only do so as part of a balanced deal to ensure Social Security’s solvency.

It also said any changes, such as increasing the age at which one is eligible for Social Security, would have to be phased in slowly and should not affect current beneficiaries....

So you see, AARP know how to talk out of both sides of their mouth.

I am going to wait and see what happens before I get out the wood and build the cross upon which to crucify Obama. I think that's probably the most sensible course of action. If you're looking for an asshole to crucify, start with the doubletalking bastards at AARP.

10. So were AARP great traitors BEFORE or AFTER the President personally endorsed them last week?

14. That wasn't an endorsement--AARP sends everyone a card when they turn fifty.
It would only be an endorsement if he sent in the dues.

The context of his comment was in response to a reporter's question about his BIRTHDAY.
