Feds say Chico council, city staff could face prosecution for facilitating marijuana dispensaries
Edited on Fri Jul-22-11 12:26 PM by DreamSmoker
CHICO — Chico council members, the police chief and other city staff could face federal prosecution by facilitating dispensaries with the city's medical marijuana ordinance.

The U.S. Attorney's Office wants to deter the city from allowing dispensaries that violate federal drug laws, said Dave Burkland, Chico city manager.

U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner for the Eastern District of California met with Burkland, Police Chief Mike Maloney and City Attorney Lori Barker July 14 in Sacramento.

1. I had no idea the DOJ had so much
free time on their hands. Or that medical marijuana clinics posed such a tremendous threat to national security.

2. Same thing is happening in Washington state..
Gov. Chris Gregoire’s decision to veto key parts of a bill regulating medical marijuana in Washington has left the state with a patchwork system of oversight that is mystifying patients, providers and the cities in which they live.
------
The uncertainty comes after lawmakers worked for months on a plan that would help clear up the state’s medical marijuana laws. The Legislature approved a plan that would have created a system to regulate medical marijuana dispensaries.

But Gregoire, citing fears that state workers could face federal prosecution for participating in the licensing scheme, vetoed much of it.

Gregoire received a letter from Obama's DOJ threatening dispensaries and patients with federal prosecution. This of course is in direct contradiction to what candidate Obama promised during the campaign..
