Urgent White House Meeting Ends Without Breakthrough
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/07/urgent-white-house-meeting-ends-without-breakthrough.php

"An urgent Saturday morning White House debt talks meeting between President Obama and Congressional leaders ended after less than an hour, with both sides remaining in a stand-off and pledging to keep working through the weekend.

President Obama continued to press the leaders for a grander bargain rather than a short-term extension of the debt ceiling so the nation would not default, arguing that such a stopgap step could cause the country's credit rating to be downgraded, harming the economy and causing every American to pay higher credit cards rates and more for home and car loans.

"As the current situation makes clear, it would be irresponsible to put our country and economy at risk again in just a few short months with another battle over raising the debt ceiling," White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a statement after the meeting. "Congress should refrain from playing reckless political games with our economy. Instead, it should be responsible and do its job, avoiding default and cutting the deficit.""

1. Then Obama will
have to give up his "Grand Vision" and do his job and invoke the 14th amendment already.

6. You said it before I had a chance.
The only thing I can hope for is that Obama kept his anger overnight and let Boner know how PO'ed is is over the rude and disrespectful behavior he displayed by walking away from a meeting with THE PRESIDENT.

What an ass.

7. Not really. But nobody had posted that the meeting was over.
I looked it up in Google News, and posted. As always, I was hopeful. As usual, my hopes were not realized.

12. Well scratch that, maybe. CNN just said Boehner conference call says new $3-4T deal is being
discussed which would happen in two parts with two votes necessary. No word that Dems have acknowledged or agreed to any of this.

11. Please no more "grand bargain" talk.

They aren't going to agree to any revenue increases and without them we shouldn't agree to any cuts. Please Mr. President aren't you tired of :banghead:? Boner is not going to give in unless you agree to completely end the Big 3 and every other program that doesn't benefit only the filthy rich. The Boner wants complete and total capitualation, and that is all you will ever get him to agree too.

Why can't Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed just reintroduce the clean debt cieling bill again with an agreement to disscuss but not guarentee future revenue and reductions talks? Isn't this bascially whant Nancy Pelosi recently proposed?

Sure the Pukes will still vote "No" but then the default is solely on the PUKES. Dems can justifiably claim they did every thing they could to get a deal on the deficit too but the PUKES refused.

13. Wow, they didn't come to a consensus?
Didn't see that coming. :sarcasm:

The good news is that if we do go into default because of Republican obstructionism, Democrats will be able to directly hang this albatross firmly around the Republicans neck.
