Freepers opine about why they have no success in the movie industry. |

Hilarity ensues. I suppose the Palin movie doesn't count. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2753404/posts:rofl:

1. Well the Palin movie seems to have bombed |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-24-11 11:40 PM by Skip_In_Boulder
Receipts have been horrible and now they have it slated for DVD release most probably because it has bombed in the theaters.
On Edit: I love this line from the article.
“Why is the movie business dominated by liberals?”
Could that be because liberals actually have talent?

2. Also because liberals are more likely to study liberal arts -- notice |
|
the use of the word "liberal" in liberal arts -- like literature, languages, history, etc.
Naturally, liberals will understand what makes a good story much better if they have read the great literature: Steinbeck, Faulkner, Proust, Goethe, Balzac, Camus, Voltaire, etc.
I have Ayn Rand. Her literary ability does not compare to that of Proust or Voltaire or Faulkner or Steinbeck.

3. Ayn Rand's ability doesn't even match whoever wrote the Dick, Jane, and Sally readers. |
|
She's wordy; I WILL grant her that. But her wordiness is beyond dreck.

6. Yep the word liberal comes from |
|
the Latin "liberalis" which means to be free, to set free, freedom.
I have never understood why when Republicans claim they hate liberals and liberalism that Democrats do not retort with, "So you are against freedom then"?

"Santa Monica, Calif. (PRWEB) July 24, 2011 - Victory Film Group and ARC Entertainment, the distributor of "The Undefeated," the film about Gov. Sarah Palin's rise from obscurity to national prominence, jointly announced today that beginning on September 1st the film will be available to 75 million homes via Video on Demand and Pay-Per-View access through national and regional cable and satellite operators. The DVD will launch on October 4th and will be available at traditional and online retailers nationwide. ARC is estimating its initial unit shipment to be approximately 250,000 units. A "Special Edition" DVD will contain additional new content and will only be sold in Walmart stores. ARC will continue to expand the limited engagement theatrical release nationwide throughout August and September as demand across the country remains high.
Trevor Drinkwater, CEO of ARC Entertainment, said, "Since the film opened in select markets across the country on July 15th we have been inundated with requests from people wanting the film to be made available in their market. After methodically analyzing the most effective ways to bring this galvanizing film to the widest audience as soon as possible we have determined that continued limited theatrical distribution, Video-on-Demand, Pay-Per-View and DVD sales will be the best modalities by which to deliver this film as widely as possible. We have created partnerships with national cable, satellite and mass retailers to achieve our distribution goals."
"This title is absolutely perfect for Video-on-Demand and Pay-Per-View backed by a traditional and significant marketing campaign. We are incredibly excited about having this film made available to the entire country earlier than expected," said Glenn Bracken Evans, the film's producer. "A traditional windowed release would not have allowed us to maximize viewership of this highly sought after film," continued Evans.
<snip>
Filmmaker Stephen K. Bannon stated, "Given the strong audience reaction we have determined there is overwhelming demand for us to get this film out broadly enough to cover the entire nation in September and October. In a 90-day period from August to November we will be able to effectively cover the nation through multiple distribution modalities."

12. I wish I could afford that kind of publicist |
|
EVERYONE knows that movies which bomb in movie theaters have a HUGE audience just waiting to see them, and gosh, they'd better ship a quarter of a million DVD's immediately! :sarcasm:
One of the few movies I can think of that bombed commercially and made up for it later: It's a Wonderful Life.
Hey, Sarah Palin, I saw George Bailey. I loved George Bailey. You're no George Bailey.

18. they lost a lot of money just shipping the prints for those 12 theaters |
|
A 35mm print for 90 mins of film is $32,000. They made 12 prints so that is $384,000.
The film grossed $24,000 so $384,000 minus $24,000 (actually less bc the theater owners take some)... it lost $360,000 in theatrical release. ROI = -96%. Maybe this is why the GOP is the party for small businesses. Any business that gets -96% on its investment is going to be SMALL.

21. "the most effective ways to bring this galvanizing film to the widest audience " |
|
The most effective ways to bring that "polarizing" film to its proper place is to toss every single DVD copy of it into "galvanized" metal trash cans.

need for control of others.
All of these things are the antithesis of creativity, and liberalism.

Almost all have shitty production quality. It's their fault because I know there are people with deep pockets who would finance better movies.

16. Another lol is that Hollywood is practically the model for the economy they want... |
|
...much of the work is project-to-project, so unless you're already a superstar you have to glad-hand everybody so that you don't tick off someone you might need a job from later.
How many of the Keyboard Kommandos would pass that test?

17. Well, they couldn't do comedy because they cannot bring the funny to save their lives . . . |
|
Another reason they can't do comedy is because comedy usually means you're laughing on purpose, not because you're too exhausted to cry.
They can't do documentaries because it requires them to defend the indefensible ("faith-based economics" and worker-screwing labor practices) and it would just wind up as one big agitprop pile.
They can't do drama because they have no feelings.
They can't do romance because they never got out of the 1950s "wimmens should be in thuh kitchin fixin' me a meal" mentality.
So should they be asking? Really???

24. Seems to me there are plenty of conservatives in Hollywood |
|
One reason conservatives might not make it in Hollywood is that they don't aspire to be innovative or creative. That would require having cultivated such interests in their formative years. To ever step out of their rigidly narrow roles in life, conflicts with their limited vision. The women are too busy marrying at 17, having super-size families, and centering their social lives around church. The men are too self-centered, too busy fighting and hoarding to care much for a career catering to audiences who would expect them to give something of themselves to their craft.
The men who exude old-fashioned American values on the screen like Jimmy Stewart had a distinct liberal attitude because those attitudes made him a hero. Most conservative men do not have the look and aptitude for being heroes. A star is loved by fans because he portrays a character usually some form of themselves. Liberals are just nicer characters.
They come across as generous, giving, trustworthy--in Hollywood shorthand--they wear the white hats and they save the day whether by taking on the bullies, the thugs, the power structures, etc. The conservatives who represent the evil Mr. Potter-types from Bedford Falls, the Snidely Whiplashes that tie PollyPureheart to the railroad tracks and evict her poor widowed mother from her home, the anti-social Wall Street thugs, the greedy criminal politicians. Again in short--the bad guys in the black hats. Conservative behavior is seen as thuggish and morally reprehensible in Hollywood as in most places. The bad guys lose.
Now they come sniveling that Hollywood is unfair to them? Uh, no. It is just that audiences would reject the notion that they are good guys. They just aren't that good of actors.
