While some car makers do their best to score endorsement deals with professional sports teams and celebrities, Subaru decided to pin a different type of claim on its line of all-wheel drive speedsters. To show its support for the upcoming Run For Your Lives 5K obstacle course event in Baltimore, the Japanese car maker has declared itself "The Official Escape Vehicle of the Zombie Apocalypse."

The event itself pits runners — with "health flags" on their belts — against a horde of zombies attempting to take them down. The zombies attempt to snag the flags from the runners as they make their way through a wooded area equipped with a total of 12 different obstacles. Winners are invited to return to the event next year to lead a team of zombies against other would-be survivors, while anyone who has their health flags completely stolen is declared a zombie on the spot.

Subaru, and its high performance, all-wheel drive WRX speed demon, are a major sponsor of Run For Your Lives, and the above video was made to promote the event. The car in question is capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 in just 5 seconds and comes equipped with an off-road minded suspension. It also happens to be a favorite of rally racers around the globe, so its claims of usefulness during the inevitable rise of the undead should be taken quite seriously.
