I can't remember even one, at least not for political reasons...seems like it is just Democrats/Liberals who are shot for their affiliations and views.

otherwise you deserve to be shot in Lincoln's booth!

10. I know people broke into Truman's office to attack him as well...he shot back
at them, IIRC.

Just that this seems to happen much more often to Dems than to republicans.

19. It was in his office in Blair House while the White house was being rebuilt.
He was attacked by Puerto Rican Nationalists who were attempting to kill him, and he did withdraw a S&W revolver that he kept in his desk drawer. Evidently he did now fire it.

13. I wonder how many on the left made specious
comments about this incident in 1998.

The guy didn't get to DeLay, though

http://clerk.house.gov/art_history/highlights.html?action=view&intID=270

And there was the incident with Bob Barr:

(AP) An antique .38-caliber pistol accidentally discharged as it was being handled by U.S. Rep. Bob Barr during a reception in his honor. The bullet hit a glass door, and no one was hurt.

Also, didn't Dick Cheney shoot some Republican in the face?

:sarcasm:

14. Wasn't Wallace paralyzed from the waist down?
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 05:08 AM by NuclearDem
Again, not a political reason behind the attack, but still...

Oh, and a Republican president was assassinated in 1901. And another in 1865. And another in 1881.

In fact, the only non-Republican President to be assassinated was JFK. The three Republicans assassinated were for political reasons too.

Then there was the Georgian who attempted to assassinate both Mikheil Saakashvili and Bush just a few years ago. It was only luck that the grenade failed to detonate.

15. psstt, George Wallace was a Democrat
a southern populist who renounced his racist segregation supporting attitudes later in life, making apologies and turning in to a different person more or less. He had a change of mind and heart like Senator Byrd did...showing that people can figure out and renounce their ignorant ways.
