GREAT Facebook Status -- make it go viral if you use FB please
I PAID cash for my Social Security insurance! Our benefits aren’t some kind of charity or handout! Congressional benefits—premium federal health care, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days—now THAT’S welfare! And they have the nerve to call my retirement an entitlement?

Repost if you are sick of their crap.

16. Hey, just posted a few minutes ago and already I have 8 likes and 5 comments.
All the comments are positive in nature. And I don't think the posters are all Dems, either.

Try it! Let's go viral with it!

29. Started when I was 14 and I will have to wait for
more than half a century to collect "full" benefits as I recall the goal post being moved in the 1980's courtesy of the last "crisis".

17. Done. I also found this on FB.
From the Atlantic:

It's based on data from the Congressional Budget Office and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Its significance is not partisan (who's "to blame" for the deficit) but intellectual. It demonstrates the utter incoherence of being very concerned about a structural federal deficit but ruling out of consideration the policy that was largest single contributor to that deficit, namely the Bush-era tax cuts.

how about I change it up for me and others that are not retired to this: Our retirees PAID cash for their Social Security insurance! Their benefits aren’t some kind of charity or handout! Congressional benefits—premium federal health care, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days—now THAT’S welfare! 19. Hell, it just might even be worth joining Facebook to say something like that.
Or saying something like, "What Would Reagan Do?"

Sort of a nuanced version of Ava Lowery's "What Would Jesus Do?" anti-war videos.

34. What's worse is that
you are not entitled to your Social Security. Per the SCOTUS your social security payments are not guaranteed and are not yours they are owned by the government. Fleming v. Nestor
http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=5776
"In other words, Social Security is not an insurance program at all. It is simply a payroll tax on one side and a welfare program on the other."

But if it were up to me they would make it a "personal" account but NOT privatize it.

41. Well, that's what "entitlement" means.
It's owed to people of retirement age as a matter of right. It's also a prime example of a successful social welfare program, even though we don't call it that because of the sigma that the word "welfare" carries.
