1. Yeah ... that makes sense .... NOT ...
He is a registered indie who seems to have stalked this congress-critter for 3 years ... asked her some nonsense question
and when she didn't answer him "correctly" he got pissed ...

I would like to know when he bought the handgun ... because he was removed from the CC he was attending and
could not return until mental health svc's stated he was not a threat to himself and others ...
additionally he had make threats before .... did he buy the gun before this or after ... if after ... why ....

2. many teabaggers are registered independents
The shooter was a rw nutjob. The teabaggers and their well heeled backers have been deliberately promoting a gun-centric climate of violence which portrays the 'democrat' party and all of its supporters as traitors, as un-american, as 'the other'. Sharon Angle famously declared that second amendment remedies should be considered if the ballot box failed. Sarah Palin had Giffords in one of her rifle scope crosshairs on her famous map. The rhetoric of these clowns has consequences, and one of those consequences is that it provides the ideological justification for nut jobs to do their nut jobbery.

5. They use violent rhetoric and violent imagery
to get their point across. Violence, hatred, and ignorance are all they know.

8. They've been shaking the crazy tree for years now, and another NUT fell out.
Its not an accident. It has 2 purposes.

The first is intimidation. That's why you have people bring guns to political events, or claiming that they didn't bring them "this time". Or that followers should be "armed and dangerous".

The second is that political assassination, when conducted directly by an organized group, has significant blow back. Today's right wing model is indirect. They intentionally create the fear and anger conditions under which an already deranged individual will carry out the attacks for them. That's why you put 20 targets on the map.

The right wing leaders would have no problem if a different deranged nut was able to get to Obama. If that happened, they'd all look around as if they were "surprised".

3. The prohibition and subsequent disqualificatioin
for gun ownership through the NICS system requires court adjudication as mentally unstable, not a psychologists/psychiatrists sole opinion and not a teacher's opinion. It is as it should be IMHO. I blame the parents and others who didn't push the psychiatric issue.

I've seen enough posted on the internet to indicate that there are questions. Quit trying to whitewash this.

9. November 1963
In November 1963, I was a 1LT stationed at Ft Hood. I was in the battalion headquarters when the word came that JFK had been shot.

The XO immediately said it was the "John Birchers" that did it. The papers and the TV were full of accusations that it was "the climate of hatred in Dallas" that did in the president (the nation was going through the civil rights crisis at the time).

Well, it turned out that it was a very confused leftist nutjob, Lee Harvey Oswald, that did the deed.

If you are a right leaning conspiracy theorist, Oswald did it at the behest of the Soviets or the Cubans.

If you are a left leaning conspiracy theorist, it was the Mafia, the CIA, rogue US military, or, preferably, the BFEE that did in JFK.

No one is still blaming the "climate of hatred in Dallas" for the assassination.

Two alternatives exist:

1. He did it all by himself for reasons that seemed adequate to his twisted mind.

2. He was a part of a larger group (right or left) or the tool of such a group which planned this.

Either case will be revealed during the investigation.

16. Oswald was a CIA 'asset'.
If you think he was a leftist, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.

6. Nonsense
I disagree with these groups philosophies as much as the next DUer, but to blame all political dissenters for the acts of a nutjob, even if the nutjob agrees with their thinking would be no different than blaming all Democrats and Animal Rights Groups for the act of a lone sympathizer of ALF, nut.

12. You sound just as crazy
Think before you press the post button! As a rule of thumb, every time I compose a post, I re-read it and decide if it is worthy of posting. Does it make sense? Does it make the point I intended? Do I want to defend it?

As a result, less than half of my composed posts ever make it on this board. I have learned that having something to say doesn't mean it's necessarily something I want to share. We all have irrational thought at times, especially those times when we feel rage, because rage fuels irrational thought.

That's not to say I don't post things I shouldn't......I do, but those incidents are fewer and fewer because of closer scrutiny.

Please try to practice constraint when posting out of rage.
