what stops a Congress from purposely passing a budget, and then not raising the debt ceiling to make the POTUS from another party responsible for a default. This is whats happening now, I just don't think the GOP was smart enough to have planned this.
As I see it, this should be the last debt ceiling debate this country has. This 'rule' shouldl be done away with.

Then the president could borrow all the money he wants. That's an awful lot of power to give to the president with no check and balance.

Too much power. And, IMO, this will do the opposite of instilling confidence in potential buyers of treasury instruments in the future.

and I pobably am. But I thought the debt ceiling was the limit that we could borrow, meaning when Congress passes a budget it must stay under that ceiling or raise it. I would think that removing the debt ceiling would allow Congress to borrow as much as they want, and not the POTUS.
