Apple moving out of (mainland) China, dumps Foxconn as contracts expire. |
|
Foxconn has lost the production contract for the Apple iPad 3, with the Cupertino company opting for rival Taiwanese manufacturer Pegatron instead...
It comes after Pegatron has recently boasted that it is manufacturing the iPhone 5 in massive quantities. Sources at the beginning of July said that the firm was contracted to build no less than 15 million devices. Its only previous work for Apple was to supply 4 million CDMA iPhone 4s.
Foxconn has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons, being first rocked by a string of suicides at one of its Chinese factories, and then an explosion/fire at the plant where it made iPad 2s.http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/41293/apple-drops-foxconn-for-ipad-3?Trivia Night: "When was the last TV/Display LCD panel made in the USA". Damned if I know.

7. Perhaps, but keep them at Foxconn. They are still manufacturing electronic for |
|
Amazon.com, Intel, Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Nintendo, Nokia, Microsoft, and Sony. (To name just some of the big ones.)

However, Pegatron underbid Foxconn, so I can only imagine the inhumane working conditions there.

3. Not good enough (and I'm an Apple devotee). That manufacturing |
|
needs to be taking place in Cupertino.
We really can't blame any company, they are legally mandated to make the best profit for their shareholders. It's Congress that allowed all the incentives and loopholes that essentially opened the doors to send the jobs overseas.
Not that I don't think they're all greedy fucks, because I do, but Congress made it possible and almost a no-brainer.

5. Apple or ANY corporation -- they make more money if |
|
they ship the jobs overseas. They're in business to make money. That's the reality of a for-profit company.
