Once upon a time, my wife asked me about running for local office...

This was about 5 years ago.

This being Austin and fairly tolerant of liberals and lefties such as myself, I said back then, "no, I don't want to live in a fish bowl".

That's what I told my wife.

What I was thinking, was something vastly different.

I thought, "I don't want to be the target of some nut job on the right".

Yesterday, we were watching on line the various clips regarding the assassination attempt.

I turned to my wife and said, "remember a few years back, you asked me to think about running for local office? This is why I didn't".

I saw the writing on the wall back then.

I'm generally not a fearful person, but the rhetoric of hate speech has certainly been amped up since then. And frankly, today, anyone on the left running for office, my hat is off to you.

You are much braver than I.

We live in scary times.
