Welcome Back, Senator Lieberman...
I attended a DSCC lunch today, which included a preview of the 2012 races. Bottom line, we have a lot of seats to protect and, for the moment, not a lot of strong prospects for pickups (Ensign was the only name mentioned).

One question asked was whether DSCC would provide support for the Independents (Sanders and Lieberman) who caucus with the Dems, to which the answer was "Yes, if they need it." Based on the discussion, I'm inclined to think there's not likely to be a strong CT Democratic candidate running which DSCC would have to support in opposition to Lieberman.

I know get a lot of hostility here, a good deal of it deserved (note though: Lieberman voted with us on DADT, the START treaty and the Dream Act), but if you're hoping for someone different you'd better be working now on finding a serious candidate with deep pockets.

1. Dems chose Ned Lamont in 2006...
...if Dems still want Lamont as their candidate in 2012, by all means, he should run. Lieberman is not even a Democrat anymore, so why not?

2. Lamont has lost two elections...
2006 Sen General and 2010 Gov Primary. I don't generally believe in third chances in politics.

5. 2006 doesn't count, and I think you know why
Lieberman had Karl Rove's help in 2006. The CT Republicans were instructed to throw their own candidate under the bus and vote for Lieberman instead.

8. Hard Numbers
The CNN exit poll shows Lamont lost 1/3 of Democrats to Lieberman, and lost the Independents to him by 20 points. Can't blame either of them on Rove.

9. This is true...
...but when you have folks like Schumer threatening to back Lieberman over Lamont regardless of party affiliation, that doesn't help, either.

11. Hence, my point
No viable candidate is likely to go into the race know there will be reluctance, if not downright opposition, from the Party leadership.

3. Lieberman is a war-mongering, corporatist.
What do you mean Ct doesn't have another citizen who is a more decent human being and electable than this corporate tool?

27. Yes, I did, and a few other adjectives also.
I was trying to 'tone it down' but, you're right, he is a 'corporate whore' :-)

4. And unrec'd for even suggesting that the entire state of Ct
cannot do better than this faded, propped up betrayer of the people and the party who supported him for so long. I don't support people with no principles. I hope CT has learned not to do so either.

7. I don't make the news, I just report it...
Name a better candidate who's willing to run against the party establishment, AND find the money to be competitive.

13. Ted Kennedy, Jr. might be interested. I also wish Diane Farrell would run
but she has a great job with EXIM.

I was a Lamonter in 06 but he really turned me off in the CT gubernatorial Dem primary when, in an interview with NY Times, he said he really didn't want the Senate seat anyway, cuz he was more suited to the job of Governor. I thought to myself "well, gee, thanks Ned."

I voted for Dan Malloy in the primary and the general. I'm happy that he won, altho it's got to be one helluva job...

26. Ted Kennedy Jr. is a great choice. I wonder if he would be interested?
I am not familiar with Diane Farrell but thanks for the suggestions, I will look her up.

Sorry to hear that about Lamont. I was disappointed in the way he handled things even during the campaign, but wanted so badly to see Joementum gone I over-looked a lot I guess. But Kennedy would definitely be great. However, the party wants Lieberman for some reason and might persuade Kennedy not to run.

6. No money of mine will go to Lieberman.
A relative of mine was hired and helped orchestrate the Lamont victory over him in the Democratic Party primary. I will not give to the DSCC. I pick and choose what candidates my money goes to now.

18. There are plenty of strong prospects against Lieberman here in CT. All of our current Reps.
especially Himes or Murphy would be good. We have plenty of people to run against old Joe.

Please send Joe home! I'd even move back to vote for Lowell Weicker!

29. Lowell isn't so bad now, he really has turned to the more liberal side in recent years.
All I remember in 9th grade (I think it was around 1990) is the outright hatred my Dad had for him.
