Nader: ‘Almost 100 percent’ chance of a Democratic primary challenger to Obama

<edit>

Nader now says that a primary challenge is a near certainty.

“What did this week is just going to energize that effort,” Nader promised in an interview with The Daily Caller. “I would guess that the chances of there being a challenge to Obama in the primary are almost 100 percent.”

The only question, he said, is the stature of that opponent and whether it will be either “an ex-senator or an ex-governor” or “an intellectual leader or an environmental leader.”

In approximately a week and a half there will be “another chapter of this effort,” Nader predicted.

Forty years ago he had something to say, but these days Ralph Nader is human sewage. STFU Ralph.

16. well it's OBVIOUS dems want another candidate.
and if they are dem...they do not split the ticket. super delegates will stop a challenger at the convention...the "super delegates"...just like the super committee coming your way. But...he WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE on his campaign....this is only way to push him back to the left where he got elected. Anything else...IS his own fault.

25. Exactly.
I don't know why everyone is getting on Nader's case. Obama needs to be pushed back to the left. He seems to favor right-wing pressure; it's time to let him know the left-wing isn't going to be pushed around.

The problem is that the messenger - Nader - is a disruptive asshole who played a significant part in the play that saddled this country with Chimpoleon and Darth. His credibility on anything is near zero degrees Kelvin.

The Supreme Court is the institution that gave us the fiasco.

But let's just let that go for a moment. Do you agree that Obama needs to be more progressive, or that he needs a little legitimate nudging from the left?

9. We already have one, Randall Terry.
http://2012.democratic-candidates.org/

Declared 2012 Democratic Presidential Candidate

Pro-life Activist
Randall Terry

At a glance, it may seem a little odd for a pro-life and anti-LGBT candidate to run for the
Democratic nomination. A closer look however, would tell us that an estimated 30-40% of Democrats
actually shares the 52-year old Terry’s views. And for those who consider this as nothing more
than a publicity stunt by an anti-abortionist radical, think again. Randall Terry is planning to
spend close to $3 million for a 30-second slot in the 2012 Super Bowl.

Good luck dude.

11. All Obama has to do to stop this is: end the wars, or tax the rich, or end free trade or
fight for Medicare for All.

It aint rocket science.

And no, he is not adequately doing those things, so just saying he is doing something he isn't is not good enough. It will take more than the usual PR from the usual think tanks.

31. Sigh. The Democratic party's base is moderates
Our distribution is not like Republicans; their party is smaller, but is more conservative than ours is liberal (I don't mean the leadership, I mean actual registered voters). That's why conservative freakshows can and do win GOP primaries, whereas Kucinich or Gravel never get above 2 or 3 percent. A greater percentage of Democrats self-identify as moderates than is true for the population as a whole.

Governor from Arkansas....look where he ended up. Just because someone isn't well known now, doesn't mean they won't win the nomination. People are staving for SOMEONE who supports THEM...not corporations and the wealthy, but main street, the little guy, the working poor, UNIONS and seniors.

The median voter is much less trustful of government's ability or desire to help than DU is. DK pulls 2 to 3 percent primary support even in very liberal states.

18. I want a primary challenger...
...and I really don't care what Ralph Nader says or does.

It's obvious that the corporatists have infiltrated both parties.

Time to stop living in fantasy-rainbow-sparkle fairyland--where we
believe that the answers are within our current political structure.

All politicians are bought and paid for, except for a few outliers.

Time to get back to what our Founding Fathers wanted. Enough of
this corporatist, neocon bullshit from both sides.

Nader has served them in far more ways than they will ever realize (anyone paying attention in the 70's and 80's would know that). I also like the way they cover for the GOP criminals and the SCOTUS by blaming Nader for their crimes in 2000. Pathetic.

23. If the economy collapses going into 2012, he may be right.
If we are right back where we were economically in '08-'09, Obama is a goner, no matter how smart and wonderful Democrats think he is.

Democrats aren't the only people who vote, as 2010 proved. Independents vote too, and while I have no respect for them, they are swift to declare and to punish what they see as failure, which they do by voting out the incumbent.
