1. Obama in a nutshell: Corporate prosperity is primary, the vet's prosperity incidental.
And will the program come with protections to keep corporations from hiring vets and then firing them but still keeping the tax credits? How about protections for the length of the job?

3. Why are you distorting his idea? This is about getting returning veterans employed faster.
Guess you could care less about that, eh?

I hear folks whining about the lack of jobs' initiatives, but when President Obama suggests something concrete that might get Congressional approval, he's denigrated unfairly and without basis.

5. It's a good idea if the program has built-in protections for the vets to keep from being exploited..
..by companies just seeking the tax credit. And I'm not distorting his idea- but if he's not going to help the vets directly, he should make sure they don't become victimized by the businesses who want those tax credits.

6. Jesus Jumped up Christ! It's a fucking JOB.
More than so many have now, and how the bloody hell do you know what conditions are built into the credit? You don't. You just piss first because that's what the cool kids do on DU these days.

7. Hey, who gets the tax credits in this deal?

You telling me because Wendy's throws a job at a vet then fires him two months later that we're onto a revolutionary idea? No, of course not. Without protections for the vets themselves, this is just a vet wrapped in red meat for a corporation to snap up. I just want to make sure they don't spit out the vet when the meat is gone.

2. Tax credits for hiring Americans slows outsourcing and is a win-win for all involved.

Those hired will be paying taxes instead of drawing UI.

This idea will require Congressional approval and will come out of the existing budget, so how is that "promoting the GOP"?

Why must you demonize this effort?

<< How bout using that same revenue to create a guaranteed works program for vets? >>

President Obama is doing that, too.

Administration officials put the cost at $120 million over two years. The plan requires congressional approval and will be funded from the existing budget, the official said.

Obama will also challenge the private sector to hire or train 100,000 unemployed veterans by the end of 2013 and will name companies willing to take part, an official said.
