Best place to donate an old car?
We have an old car we wish to donate. It runs fine, but has some crash damage to it. The crash damage is more than the car is worth but is actually easily fixed with some junk yard parts. It has four high end Michelin tires with no more than 10k miles on them. I mention this to say the care has either useful salvage parts or it is worth fixing up for someone needing basic transportation. Apart from the crash damage (all superficial) I would not hesitate to take the car on a coast to coast road trip.

Where might it serve the best charitable purpose?

Where would I get the best value to me?

In the past, we gave three cars to Purple Heart. All three were really just salvage value. This one is better than that, hence the question. I know some places just taken them and sell them at auction. You get the tax deduction equal to the auction price. Other places allow you to declare the value and they fix them up for direct donation to someone in need of a car.

Thanks!

Spelunkers, go fuck yourselves.

1. we just donated a car to our local public radio station
Car Talk has set up the program. They come get it after you give them the title, when it is fixed up and sells the radio station gets the money and you get the tax deduction.

program. Wonder if there is something where you are like that where they could fix it up and maybe they would sell it and the proceeds would go back into the program?

on edit: here is a link that may be useful... http://donate--car.com/
Donate Car allows you to find a charity that accepts donated vehicles in your community and educates you on all the aspects of charity car donation.

I donated a car to them once. They gave me a 'receipt' on which they listed the year, make & model of my car, but it was my call on what I decided for a 'book value,' which I then counted as a charitable contribution.

VOA fixes up donated cars and gives them to people in dire need of transportation to & from a job.

I'm looking for a beater that is just reliable. After about ten years of walking to save the planet, I'm giving up and need a beater cuz I'm moving a bit farther from the bus stop.
