It's called the Stockholm Syndrome!
http://smirkingchimp.com/thread/geneyes/37713/its-called-the-stockholm-syndrome

The old bromide “Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me “was a childish a statement kids used to hide their real feelings. Adults should know that personal attacks using pernicious, traumatizing and cutting language certainly do inflict, not only anguish on an individual, but can damage a person’s reputation and adversely affect their career. Barack Obama has been attacked since he was a candidate for president in what could only be described as being beyond vicious and perverted, it was designed to dehumanize him and unfortunately it appears to have been effective. If you are repeating the language of Limbaugh, Breitbert the Fox news brotherhood, the neocon anti-everything conspiracy, the TeaParty epithany, the Religious Righteousness, the States Rights separatists etc. you are merely supporting the Koch Brothers and their ilk.

The Republicans have had an agenda which has been implemented since the ending of the liberal era with President Lyndon Johnson. As the economy grew more individuals started participating and they enjoyed their little increase in prosperity. As the middle-class grew they purchased homes, cars and their children started going to college. Reagan came in and sold the idea that all of this economic growth was based totally on the goodness of heart of the rich and powerful. The more the rich made, the more you would. That was the greatest Ponzi scheme of all! Not surprisingly many of these people who were living better than they ever had before, bought into this fairy story. Many of these individuals started believing this fantasy and began consorting with the enemy. This was the beginning of their Stockholm Syndrome but not the end of the story. During the period from 2000 to 2008 the corporatists started showing their true colors— they went back to their natural inclination and started up their disposal system— eliminating millions of workers, closing many plants and shipping jobs overseas. The Republicans have succeeded in their long-term goal of making America a land of monarchs and serfs and if they get complete control of the government, all 50 states will end up like Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida.

1.—Almost instantly after Obama took office the Republican started to threaten to filibuster almost every action that he attempted to make. Since everybody claimed that the Democrats had 60 votes in the Senate I wondered why they were so confident in initiating such action. I spent hours reviewing the records of the so-called Democratic senators and discovered that there were barely 50 who could be counted on as sure votes on what might be a progressive program. I hope you understand that members of Congress play with their votes on controversial issues. If you watched the year-long game played to pass the Healthcare Bill you saw vote manipulation at its best and worst. Anyone who felt that single-payer was an actual option was really dreaming

2.--- Unfortunately we live in an America where equality seems to be something we strive for but will probably be beyond our reach for a couple of generations. Barack Hussein Obama started out with a name that was not popular sounding, certainly after 9/11 when he was running for president. He also has a permanent tan allowing certain Americans who believe that only individuals with a Lily pink complexion have the right to be considered ‘ exceptional ‘ to claim that he was not even a citizen. Even if they had seen pictures of him emerging from the womb they might agree that it was him but the womb was in either somewhere in Kenya or Indonesia. Obama was behind even when he was winning and popular.

1. Very good compairison
I grew up in Michigan. When I was a teenager I saw that the state was declining. I plotted to get out as soon as I could, then moved to Wisconsin then Minnesota where I now live. I see this state in decline as well, so I am plotting to get out. The problem is that the GOP is determined to turn every state into Michigan just as the article states.
