Israeli Street Protests: Suppressed by US Media
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2011/08/05/18686934.php

"For weeks, tens of thousands of Israelis have been protesting high prices, especially unaffordable housing, creating an intolerable burden for growing numbers being priced out of a place to live.

...

It's not a left or right issue. Polls show 87% of Israeli support the protests."

5. And at least part of it is too much money going into the settlements
Leaving insufficient funding to keep housing affordable in Israel itself.

I even recall seeing it suggested a few years ago that the Israeli government was deliberately trying to encourage people to move to the settlements by making housing there more affordable than back home. But I guess things have gotten nasty enough among the right-wing extremists that most sane Israelis are no longer prepared to hang out with them.

And the result is a made-it-happen-on-purpose housing shortage coming back round to bite the government in the ass.

Sweet.
