Since pas­sage of the deal to avoid a de­fault cri­sis, Fox News fig­ures have at­tacked Pres­i­dent Obama and De­moc­rats for call­ing for a "bal­anced ap­proach" to low­er­ing the deficit and ask­ing the na­tion's wealth­i­est to pay "their fair share." In fact, econ­o­mists across the po­lit­i­cal spec­trum agree that the deficit can­not be low­ered in the long term with­out rev­enue in­creases; a ma­jor­ity of Amer­i­cans sup­port such an in­crease; and taxes for the wealthy are at the low­est rate they have been in decades.
