CONNECT To The INTERNET Through A LIGHTBULB |
|
 ' Wonderful and worth a watch ' "...German physicist Harald Haas wants to reach for the stars in terms of data speeds and Internet connectivity. Or, if not the stars, at least the ceiling.
In a TEDTalk, Haas explained technology that would make it possible to send data through LED light bulbs instead of via radio waves. He calls it D-Light, or “data through illumination.”
Watch Haas’ TEDTalk below.

1. Most of the internet already moves that way... via fiber optics. |
|
It's the last mile that's still largely copper-bound, or OTA.

3. Not to mention laser links have been used quite a bit. |
|
Provided you have a clear line of sight, a laser link can give you nearly fiber-optic speeds without the cable.
When it comes down to it, lots of different waveforms can be used for data transmission. Radio is just a popular one because the line of sight requirements are fairly relaxed.

5. I just heard about that from a guy does does cabling. |
|
I'd like to think that I know layer 2 and up, but sometimes I forget whether it is plugged in or not. That tech is pretty cool.

It could be helpful if a car would transmit, via the brake lights, braking information so that the driver or the computer of the trailing car can tell how hard the leading car is braking.

11. That would be useful for those that think it is OK to tail gate. |
|
Especially if the trailing car had a black box that could record the driver was going 65, with an average space in front of him of 5 feet.
