6. From the article:
The crash comes just as NATO is drawing down and handing over security control to national forces. Ten thousand U.S. troops are scheduled to depart by year's end, with all U.S. military personnel out of Afghanistan by the end of 2014. However, no one is talking about withdrawing special forces and they are expected to stay on the job.

SEALs are among those who will continue to be put in harm's way - even after the main body of US forces are withdrawn.

7. AP sources: Crash kills members of SEAL Team 6
WASHINGTON -- The Associated Press has learned that more than 20 Navy SEALs from the unit that killed Osama bin Laden were among those lost in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
The operators from SEAL Team Six were flown by a crew of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.
That's according to one current and one former U.S. official. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because families are still being notified of the loss of their loved ones.
an interpreter, plus the helicopter crew.

9. Same unit:
SEAL Team 6, but not the same team. CNN reporting that they were on a mission to help other troops pinned down in a firefight. Wonder what happened to them. We need to get the hell out of there and the other 5 wars we're involved in.

10. Yep. Apparently a SEAL unit is ~ 1,000 members. This team wasn't the bin Laden team,
but part of that unit. The media really ought to be a little more precise. People often take one phrase and run with it / conflate into something other than what it is. To give her credit, the woman who reports on military affairs for CNN did make the distinction. :hi:

15. There are only about 2400 active United States Seals
and there are around 10 units. So roughly 240 per unit.
