"A voucher system that caters to wealthy parents–and religious schools"
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/voucher-system-caters-wealthy-parents-religious-schools-175620723.html

"The Wall Street Journal's Stephanie Simon profiles a fascinating education experiment in a well-to-do Denver suburb.
The Douglas County School District has started a controversial voucher program. Advocates of the voucher system normally extol it as a way to help poor kids escape struggling public schools--but under the new program, Douglas County families (whose incomes are nearly twice the national median) can use vouchers to send their children to private schools, most of which are religious.
The school district passes 75 percent of the $6,100 per-pupil allotment they get from the state directly on to parents, telling them they can use that money to send their child to whichever school they wish. The district pockets the other 25 percent."

More class & religious war comes to the USA.

1. I am a big supporter of private schools---without tax dollars
My tax money should not support a school that teaches that gays are going to hell, that the Earth is 6000 years old, that women must submit to men, and that the Christian church is an arm of the Republican Party.

8. Agree with the statement, but it's the wrong approach - get a Muslim family
to take the vouchers to pay for their child to go to their religious school = then watch the batshit crazies go off. It's like the whole "we want to post the 10 Commandments in the courthouse/school" argument - saying no just gave them the ability to cry persecution, liberal are trying to kill off Gawd in the public square, send money.

What we should have done is help every other major sect and denomination JOIN those lawsuits - on the Christian side of it -

4. Tax dollars to supplement the wealthy again. This is wrong
on so many levels. Truly vile abuse of public monies.

5. Fact is- given that the income level of that district is TWICE
the average person, HOW is it possible that tax dollars are
being given to them to pay for schools they could well afford on their own?
It is SO fucking outrageous!

9. And this could cause many tuitions to go up
If you have a private school with 5-figure tuition that is now going to be subsidized by a government voucher, and most of the schools students are from affluent homes anyway, the school will make the rational choice to simply raise tuition by whatever amount the voucher provides.

Then the private school will have more money, which it can use to buy a new jumbo-tron for the football stadium while the public schools struggle with outdated textbooks and old computers.

6. Mission accomplished! This is what vouchers are for, and it is all they are for.
Don't make the mistake of believing otherwise.

7. With all of the "Faith-Based" implementation coming out for health care, can we expect the same thin
g there?

"Here's your anti-depressant. Jesus loves you. Don't worry about that ache in your side."
