Has anyone seen those disgusting "toddlers and tiarras" shows?
I just happened to stumble upon this show and watched it in horror. Little girls from toddlers to 10 year olds are put on display and judged for "best smile...prettiest eyes...prettiest hair...best personality etc...ad nauseum. Their nutty mothers are shown prepping the little ones and pushing them forth to compete for the crowns...Isn't there a law against child labour or something that could stop this?
IT'S HORRIFYING!

1. Very much so.
Spray tans, hair extensions, and"flappers" for 2-year olds are ridiculous.

I watched one today. I thought that the children were sort of cute.
They were children. The problem that I saw were the parents, overbearing.

4. Those young girls are being given collagen injections...
and the peach fuzz on their legs waxed off.

Fucking adorable.

8. The children are cute...but that is not my point....
The point is, this is not normal for little girls to have to devote their lives to this. I believe they are doing damage to the psyches of these children....especially the ones who don't "win".

3. Yeah they are really bad
I've said on countless occasions, if I was with Child Services, I would send at least one person to the backstage area of those shows and start arresting those terrible terrible parents.

6. Like the one that gave the 3-year old Ensure ONLY to keep her
weight down?

That was so offensive...and should have had the Mom arrested.

5. Only clips on The Soup.
Which is still more than enough to make me want to put the parents in prison. Preferably forever.

10. Do you actually believe I watched this for entertainment?
As I said, I watched in horror, wondering how this could not be judged as child abuse.

17. No. I was not commenting on your watching it. I was saying
that I would never do so. I'm not about commenting on your motivations, since I have no idea what they are. I only speak for myself.

11. Even worse - I've seen it in person.
I was in Vegas a couple years ago and staying at the Tropicana Hotel - one of those pageants was being held there, it's even more disturbing when you see it in person.

12. I have watched for a few minutes...
and I apologize, but....why are most of the mothers overweight women? Are they living vicariously through their little girls?

I have nieces, a nephew and 6 great nieces and nephews and I, of course, think that they are all beauties....but would never encourage this crap.

Makeup on a 5 year old every weekend? Really?

These kids are going to grow up to be socially effed up. They're being taught the wrong thing(s).

15. I stumbled across the show a couple weeks ago and was nauseated.
They had trainers or agents who were trying to take over for the mothers...the mothers were fighting and the girls were sucking their thumbs.

It is a child's version of world wide wrestling. Disgusting.

18. it promotes pedophelia
Making a 3 year old dress up like a 30 year old hooker only feeds into the fantasies of the perverts and predators who believe "they wanted it".
The show should be illegal, and the parents charged with child abuse.

21. Even if that weren't true
and it is, it's still an incredible warping of a child's mind to reinforce to them that the only thing a person is worth is what they look like. This "make a bitch foundation" industry should be shut down by any means possible.

20. I saw this scam when my eldest daughter was a baby.
My wife and I dressed her up took her to the local mall figuring what the heck, she had a good a chance as any baby. I realized pretty quick it was a rich parents contest with the contest judges and employees checking out the clothes and what the parents had. Surprise surprise, the winner's parents all had fine shoes, diamond rings, etc etc.
My sister got pulled into this scam with her younger daughter, it turned out ugly. Lots of money tossed down the drain.

I just sat there with my jaw on the floor and couldn't look away - it was like a car accident! So horrifying!

24. I have watched it and it is horrifying and amazing at the same time
These litte tots are made up with fake eyelashes, wigs, lipstick, spray tans, fake teeth or 'flippers' appliances to fit in the front teeth gap, frothy sequin dresses, abbreviated swim suits, the whole ten yards, etc. They perform coy little suggestive movements, winking and smirking. Oh man. The parents spend thousand of bucks to have these kids flaunt their fake cuteness. The contestents get some bucks and huge fake sparkly 'crowns'. I would think this crap would only appeal to pedifiles but apparently the parents think it is perfectly normal.

25. This is my guilty pleasure TV show
I watch it for the same reason that many watch Jersey Shore -- it's a trainwreck you can't help but watch.

I want to strangle every parent on that show.

I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me like abuse.
