Repukes: The lesson of recent American politics is that political terrorism works. Period |
|
For Republican leaders, there was pride in a hand well played. “I think some of our members may have thought the default issue was a hostage you might take a chance at shooting,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said. “Most of us didn’t think that. What we did learn is this — it’s a hostage that’s worth ransoming.”http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/origins-of-the-debt-showdown/2011/08/03/gIQA9uqIzI_story.htmlhttp://www.balloon-juice.com/2011/08/07/all-crimes-are-paid/(i know some of you at DU do not like to use the term terrorism in politics, but THIS is their own words)

2. Works when leaders are afraid to stand up. |
|
Perhaps we should modify this to say that it works when we have leaders afraid to stand up.
We need to convince President Obama to stand up for the things he campaigned for. Failing that, and it does feel like a longshot at this particular point, we must convince Democrats in Congress to stand up, and I mean stand up against this President and these policies that are antithetical to the longheld beliefs of the Democratic Party and that are destructive to the country as a whole.
It is unacceptable that we continue to let the tail wag the dog, with the Tea Party controlling the agenda and policies of this entire nation.
I wish it was clearer to politicians that there is a way to do this that is entirely unprincipled, but there is also a way, and I would believe it a more successful way, and that is to follow a course based on principles that are clear and sound and true and that actually work!!!!
The economic principles espoused by the current Republican party have been proven soundly, over and over again, not to work. It's just that Democrats do such a lousy job of pointing this out, every time it occurs. Instead they go all wonk-talk or even sign on to a watered down version of the same b.s.
Standing up to bullies is the only thing you can do. I think we all learned that since grade school.

4. We can't change them. We have to change us! |
|
Look, they are laying out clearly what their game plan is for future 'negotiations.' We cannot stop them from trying to do this again. Why the hell wouldn't they? Guaranteed, they will. Who's surprised? What remains to be seen is how the Democrats will respond. And I hope to God that's not a repeat. When your opponent tells you who he is, believe him.
