All hell is breaking loose around London, UK.
There are roving groups of youth in different parts of London starting fires, damaging property and vehicles.

200+ people have been arrested and 30+ have been charged.

They are calling in Police from neighboring cities now.

More coverage of the mayhem:

1. Wilding gangs are attacking in Chicago on the lakefront,
at Lollapalooza, and in tony shopping 'hoods. Been going on all summer, mostly weekends. In broad daylight.

6. Police killed a man. Peaceful protest at police station. Then stuff went bad.
Some youth took it on themselves to start trashing things.

This is now the 3rd day of rioting.

It has spread to many different parts of London. Notting Hill, Ealing, Peckham...

9. Police killing a man was the original issue. It now is just mayhem.
Looting and roving groups openly challenging the Police. Many fires started.

Road closures, Tube closures and bus services cancelled in a lot of areas.

11. Because they are poor, have no opportunities, and are angry
Same shit really. The rich screwed over a group of young people; the young folks have had enough.

27. You think Notting Hill residents are trashing their own neighborhood tonight?
And the folks in Ealing?

There are groups traversing the city. They aren't just in their own 'hoods.

16. Do rioters need a reason?

There had been a protest of a police killing. The vast majority of those who are smashing and burning things pretty much just want to smash and burn things, which is usually the situation when things get down to smashing and burning things.

They are setting fire to stores which have apartments above them and otherwise jeopardizing people's lives to demonstrate their desire for justice, I suppose.

18. Generally there is a catalyst but
I'm guessing from the previous post the catalyst was Police brutality. But the root cause is generally poor economic conditions. (ie Rodney King Riots)

I'm just not familiar with UK current events or economic conditions. It seems odd for them to have civil unrest like this.

Rioting is rioting. It is exciting and exhilarating. People of all economic conditions do it.

17. Just for "fun" now. Looting and smashing for its own sake.
If there was ever any point to it that point is long gone now.

5. The Tories kind of deserve it--cutting and closing all the youth clubs...
so kids have nowhere to go in a big city. Conservatives--like ours--love to rush into this crap. Hoover did it when we owed zero zilch, nada. It never works and they just do it over again like lemmings looking for votes for their crappy jobs.

Unrest is spreading into some of the nicer neighborhoods now. We're fixated on the stock market but London might be the story of the day.

Plus I don't think they would be using old ass M113 Armored Personnel Carriers.
