Do you think Newsweek's cover of Bachman portrays her as nuts?

I guess it's all in the beholder, but I think she just looks like she always looks. She's an attractive woman, but she has some very crazy ideas I don't see that protrayed in that photo. What am I missing in all the complaints?

...as much as somebody might want to hide it, you just can't. She's batshit insane and I think some in the GOP are mad that Newsweek didn't cover that up for her.

If I take portraits of a person I take a number of pictures and chose the best.

If that was the best of the pictures the Newsweek photographer got she might be truly crazy or one of the most un-photogenic political candidates who every ran to become a candidate for the office of the President of the United States.

Even NOW seems upset over the picture.

The National Organization for Women defends Bachmann against Newsweek

Monday, the National Organization for Women (NOW) spoke out against Newsweek’s most recent cover, which features an extreme close-up of Michele Bachmann and the title “The Queen of Rage.”

“It’s sexist,” NOW president Terry O’Neill told TheDC. “Casting her in that expression and then adding ‘The Queen of Rage’ I think . Gloria Steinem has a very simple test: If this were done to a man or would it ever be done to a man – has it ever been done to a man? Surely this has never been done to a man.”

While some have pointed out that Newsweek has used unflattering photos of men such as Rush Limbaugh and John McCain on its cover, O’Neill says that is not the issue.

“Who has ever called a man ‘The King of Rage?’ Basically what Newsweek magazine – and this is important, what Newsweek magazine, not a blog, Newsweek magazine – what they are saying of a woman who is a serious contender for President of the United States of America…They are basically casting her as a nut job,” O’Neill said. “The ‘Queen of Rage’ is something you apply to wrestlers or somebody who is crazy. They didn’t even do this to Howard Dean when he had his famous scream.”

While I have absolutely no desire to see this woman become President of the United States, I believe all candidates deserve fair treatment, Democrat or Republican, man or woman. What I fear is that if she keeps getting unfair treatment in the media that is this blatantly obvious, she may benefit from a backlash. In my opinion, one of the reasons that Sarah Palin got far more than her fifteen minutes of fame was because she was able to take advantage of all the media attacks to gain sympathy.

Michele Bachmann seems quite capable of self destructing on her own.

Of course, it could be pointed out that if she did become the Republican candidate for President, Obama should have an easy time winning his second term. To be honest, I don't see any current Republican candidates that can out campaign Obama.

Drug-addled...I'm guessing she uses her headache medicine daily, not just when she has a headache. Like Naprosyn or Tricyclic antidepressants or Prozac.


On edit: It may have been the only halfway nice one they took. Maybe all the others make her look even crazier.

...it's the eyes that make a person look nuts.

In Bachmann's case, her makeup has a LOT to do with it--the heavy black eyeliner gives her a "mad scientist" look that doesn't really befit someone who is barking mad. Changing to a medium brown or a violet liner would make her look far less insane than she does now. It wouldn't make her any less insane, but she'd look better.
