We're getting to see history being made, up close and personal
Edited on Mon Aug-08-11 10:05 PM by MannyGoldstein
The whole thing is melting down. It won't end without a lot of ugly, but there's a possibility it will end well, if we're smart, tough and persistent.

Even 15 or 20 years hence, many books will be written about what's going on now - if we still have the right to publish, of course.

Stay safe.

1. so freaking huge
Don't pretend to know whether we will have a 'meltdown' point or whether it's 'death my a thousand cuts'...but it *is* crumbling.

I am very grateful i am in a rural area and hope the crazy in the cities won't be as horrific as we know it can be.

Mr toad's wild ride, fo shoo!

14. That we are moving through cycles of golden ages, military. labor
It is an amazing read (and written for lay people, not wonkery)

I read it few years ago and couldn't put it down.

4. Our depression will be different from the depression of the 30's.
Edited on Mon Aug-08-11 10:09 PM by texanwitch
There are more of us, and most of us live in the cities.

We are used to a decent lifestyle that our parents and grandparents could only dream of.

I don't know how all of this will play out but it will get ugly.

I am hoping for the best.

The rich just got to rich, something has to give.

the stories you will be able to tell the grand kids...

Just hope it is not the horror stories I got to hear from dad before he passed ok.

:hi:

The kind I should write down, but I am not so sure it is the kind we should repeat.

flowed freely and powered a mighty civilization, then was the reason behind many wars, and then brought that civilizatin to it's knees once it was all used up.

19. Did yoiu ever watch the Hstory Channel toon on this subject?
I don't remember the name of it, but it took a young EMT from San Diego (coincidence) starting in 2010 and ended up in 2100 or so.

Yep, it was about the collapse and it was disturbing, but true.

21. I remember that. It was an ABC TV production...the name of it
escapes me right now but it was a good show about the topic. I googled but no luck so far.

That show was narrated until the end of that person's life around 2100. But we don't even have that long. If oil is bouncing off $100/barrel now, what do you think it will look like in 20 years? Indeed, we have about another 25 years before there will be no more oil for the proles. After that, oil will only be available to government, military, and vital services - services which will be decided by someone other than us.

10. "The whole thing is melting down."
....as well it should, the whole system is built on a house of cards....can you think of a more stupid way to finance an economy or economic growth than to do it with a corrupt 'touchy-feely' system like capitalism?

....it has it's own destructive components built right into its base....all human systems are going to be corrupt to a certain extent, but what we've witnessed since 2008 has proven our systems' corruption can't be mitigated or contained before a complete economic meltdown occurs....

....now that's the REAL 'uncertainty' in our economy and country today....
