The event on Saturday (Perry) was a bold, in-your-face slap at the separation of church and state...
Rachel Tabachnick at Talk 2 Action highlights "Five Points About Rick Perry's Prayer Rally Not Yet in Mainstream Press":

~snip~

We may have just seen the national debut of a new phase of political activism by the Religious Right that is the culmination of decades of planning. Following are five significant points about the rally that have not yet made it into mainstream press.

1. Significance of the 50-State "Prayer Warrior" Communication Networks

~snip~

... If "anointed" by the apostles as the candidate, Perry will automatically have a structure in place in these states in addition to his own campaign operation. I think that anointing may have taken place on Saturday.

2. Coded But Blatant Political Messaging

The political messages were blatant but "for the choir" only. Perry walked out onto the stage and gave his speech with C. L. Jackson and Apostle Alice Patterson by his side. There's a big story here. ...

~snip~

3. Changing Public Tone Toward Jews
John Hagee spoke, but Apostle Don Finto, former senior pastor of Belmont Church in Nashville, delivered the prayer for Israel. This is huge...

~snip~

Conclusion

~snip~

The event on Saturday was a bold, in-your-face slap at the separation of church and state, and signals a new phase in the activism of the Religious Right. Regardless of Perry's political aspirations, I fear this was a day that will indeed be remembered for years to come.

1. People who have been increasingly alarmed (and vocal) about the erosion of the wall persistently
get slapped down by many here on DU.

"Its only a prayer! Just sit and meditate and don't think about it!" Comes up every time, especially at graduation time.

Or, its those "militant atheists" who get so uppity about demanding enforcement of the separation of church and state in places like courthouses which display the 10 Commandments.

The National Prayer Breakfast sponsored by The Family get major media attention and a virtual pass on DU.

Thanks for the OP. K and R.

6. He and his "flock of fleecers" don't give a damn about the Constitution.
They want to revert to OT biblical laws.
The Yurica Report web site has a whole section on it.
Scary bunch indeed, the Dominionist Cult.

3. Robertson: Perry "Founded His Administration On The Bible"
Robertson: Is it any wonder that man was elected for three terms to lead one of the largest states in our nation, and if I might add a very prosperous states, a state that has low unemployment, paying the bills. He has founded his administration on the Bible, and if I might add it works. Man, it took courage for him to do this. All this ‘blurred the lines of separation of church and state,’ no it doesn’t. We had never, never had a time in our country where we separated this country from God, but it looks like we’re trying to do it as hard as we can. And I appreciate Gov. Perry, bringing that emphasis to come back to the roots of our nation.

Scary.

It has been a while! :hi: How are you?

I've been lurking on DU a bit, posting very little. Had an urge to post, though, with these crazy dominionist nut jobs Perry, crazy eyes Bachmann, et al in the news... gotta keep a trained eye on these folks...

8. There is an excellent writer on the Texas Observer staff covering the Perry path-
Here is a link to one of his recent articles-
http://www.texasobserver.org/cover-story/rick-perrys-army-of-god
Very good- highly recommend when you have some time to read it.

I know what you mean- about lurking phases...LOL.
I do it myself in cycles.
Lately I've been posting just because I don't know what else to do...
Soon enough, I will probably go back to lurking for a period.
Either way, good to "see" you again!

10. Oh that is too funny!
:yourock:
Yeah- great minds and all...
Well, to be modest maybe not- "great"
but observant and inquiring minds?

I think Perry is a real danger.
A very dangerous person indeed.
And the perfect puppet for tptb.

Obama has served their purpose and I predict their next move will
be to go into overdrive.
Perry is their man for the next phase- no doubt in my mind.

They have everything in place at this point-
The Patriot Acts, too many executive orders to even keep track of,
most signed during the Bush reign, Homeland Security, private military operations;
the list goes on and on.

Tie the package with a bible thumping, cross totin' Texan and
"mission accomplished!"

I'm pretty scared about the future of our collective lives actually.
Not to mention depressed.

Again good to see you friend.

PS: After thought- I'm too afraid to peek and see what Jeff Sharlet has to say on the matter- have you looked into his take yet?
I have a feeling I really don't want to know...:scared: :hide:
