If Dems win in Wisconsin, can't Walker just veto their pro-union bill? |
|
My understanding (please correct where I'm wrong) is that Democrats are likely to win either 2 or 3 seats, and if they get 3 they can overturn his legislation. But can't he just veto whatever they write and then the people are still stuck with his garbage? What am I missing?
Believe me, if they win back the Senate I'll be thrilled. But I won't be satisfied until that legislation is overturned. So I just wanted to have a better handle on when I might be able to expect that to happen (presuming they win of course).

1. It is imperative that Dems defeat Walker any way they can |
|
I don't know the specifics of Wisconsin law.
But the Democratic voters of Wisconsin should turn out like never before, and tell that asshole that he's a loser.
Now isn't the time, nor is it ever the time, to discourage Democrats from going out to vote.

2. Believe me, discouraging anyone is the furthest thing from my intention |
|
On the contrary, I'm encouraging Wisconsin Democrats to engage in what I fear will be a long-lasting fight which endures beyond tomorrow. What I mean is that if Dems can't immediately overturn Walker's BS, then they'll need to mobilize once again to get rid of Walker once and for all. I suspect that if they overturn it he'll veto it, thus setting up (I hope) a rage-fueled recall campaign against him (when he becomes eligible for that). I was born in Wisconsin. If anyone can do it they can. But I hope they realize it's not a simple one-shot deal.
I'm all for telling Walker what a loser he is. But more importantly I'm for the more pressing thing, getting rid of his law. Today will hopefully be a step in that direction. I just hope everyone is willing to wait a little bit until they can complete the journey.

3. We will get rid of his law when he's gone (in a few months)... |
|
Regaining control of the Senate is what this about so he can't ram through more egregious legislation.

4. Blocking him is certainly important |
|
Again, I was only curious about this specific law because it's important. Although I realize that his voter suppression law is equally disturbing, so blocking his future power grabs is a valid and important strategy. I'm just exceedingly anxious to see Democrats on offense again as opposed to fighting from behind as they have been for a while now.
Seems I've pissed people off by asking a question. Maybe those folks should realize this is a public discussion board, that questions belong here too, and that asking a valid question isn't tantamount to some evil motivation.

We have to regain control of senate to slow down the ruination of Wisconsin....
Having control of the senate will stop Walkers free pass.
The republicans and Walker pushed through at blazing speed unprecedented legislation that had long been festering in the bowels of Wisconsin conservatives...
RECALL WALKER! Is next.

...the Dems the ability to override a veto, (if I understand correctly).
However, that is unlikely. Flipping three seats will flip the Senate and stop the Republican bills from going forward anyway.
Walker can be recalled in January, but that will probably wait until Nov 2012, based on what Democratic leaders in the State have been saying.
