62% say debt ceiling deal benefits the rich, hurts the poor
By Eric W. Dolan
RawStory.com

Sixty-two percent of Americans think the bill that raises the federal's debt ceiling through the year 2013 and makes major cuts in government spending benefits the rich at the expense of the poor and middle class, according to a CNN/ORC poll released on Monday.

President Barack Obama signed a debt ceiling deal into law, called the the Budget Control Act of 2011, last week that to raise the debt ceiling until 2013 and cut the federal deficit by about $2.1 trillion over a 10-year period. The two-stage agreement, which was criticized by both tea party lawmakers and progressive Democrats, passed by a vote of 269 to 161 in the House and a vote of 74 to 26 in the Senate.

Only 27 percent say that the debt ceiling deal treats all classes fairly and 11 percent have no opinion.

1. It has taken a lot of misery, but the public is finally to the left of Washington
Let rates rise on the wealthiest, no more 15% capital gains tax masquerading as income tax, end the wars, cut defense, leave SS and Medicare benefits alone...what a wasted political moment.

2. Now if they all remember to register, actually go to the polls...
...and then all vote their economic self-interest, and not their race, or their religion, or their region, or the way their family has always voted, or vote for the babe -- or the hot guy -- then we might get somewhere.

But in the nearly 230 years of the Republic, they never have, not consistently anyways.

4. The soil is getting more fertile for a left-populist rebellion every day.
Maybe the only reason the Brits are ahead of us in action is that their "lower" classes have lived longer under heavy oppression from the rich than have we. They by now have had structural unemployment ever since the old Empire breathed its last gasps.
