Al Gore: "‘This climate thing...it’s not getting warmer.’ Bullshit!"
Edited on Tue Aug-09-11 10:44 AM by drokhole
Al Gore Lets Loose In Aspen Institute Speech About Bullshit Anti Global-Warming Pseudo-Science
source: Huffington Post

In a passionate rant, Gore says his opponents are a group of people, "washing back at you the same crap over and over and over again. There's no longer a shared reality ... It's no longer acceptable in mixed company -- meaning bipartisan company -- to use the goddamn word 'climate.'"

Gore continues:

"And some of the exact same people — I can go down a list of their names — are involved in this. And so what do they do? They pay pseudo scientists to pretend to be scientists to put out the message: ‘This climate thing, it’s nonsense. Man-made CO2 doesn’t trap heat. It may be volcanoes.’ Bullshit! ‘It may be sun spots.’ Bullshit! ‘It’s not getting warmer.’ Bullshit!"

nothing to see here.... droughts.... floods.... nope.... nothing to see here... just explain it away.... the thing is... what's the worst that happens if we put in place a save the earth plan??? we clean up our earth?? even if it ended up being a false alarm, the alternative is.... no place to live. hmmm.... and by the time we realized we were wrong about it being a myth it will be too late.

17. I wouldn't say no one, but the voices of the short-sighted certainly have the amplification
of those with monied interests to protect in the short term. So, it is sometimes more difficult to hear those who are looking at this issue long-term.

Edited on Wed Aug-10-11 11:18 AM by IthinkThereforeIAM
... a hit for Tanya Tucker back in the 1970's, is what I keep thinking about:

Step back non-believers
Or the rain will never come
Someone start that fire burning
Somebody beat the drum
He said some may think I'm crazy
For making all these claims
But I swear before this day is over
You folks are gonna see some rain

36. Wait until >gasp< it SNOWS in winter again!!!!!
Then there will be hearty chortling among the talking heads again, "joking" and exclaiming how there CAN'T be "global warming" because look, there's SNOWMAGGEDON out there!

:eyes:

If they only understood that a touch of global warming spawns weather extremes (among other shifting weather patterns), they would realize that extremes means hotter summers, longer droughts (um, during summer), colder winters, deeper blizzards (also in winter, duh), bigger or more numerous hurricanes (during hurricane season), long hurricane seasons... etc. It's NOT: "everything gets warmer 24/7." Rather, it's: "everything gets wilder, bigger, and COSTLIER."

Attention, right-wingers: COSTLIER.

purposely distorting it to make it seem as if it just means getting warmer because their audience just believes what they are told instead of looking things up for themselves.

Many deniers don't contest this. Their new thing is it's not man made. But they ignore the fact that the carbon isotopes in the CO2 are the result of burning fossil fuels, not erupting volcanoes.... or they don't know what an isotope is. (in which case their assessment is not worth anything)

58. acknowledging factors that are able to be changed by changing how we live (ie: not using
gasoline or oil) forces people to think about doing things differently which they don't want to do. If they pretend it isn't from us, then they can say we can't do anything about it so oh well. that way they can just keep doing whatever they want.

26. Key Phrase right there: SHE KNEW BETTER.
Her choice came from purely selfish reasons and dozens of millions of people are STILL paying the price for that horrible decision. She's expressed not one iota of remorse for it either.

This was her JOB. Never ONCE did she ask "are we overstepping our bounds in the interference of a State election/recount?" Never ONCE did she ask herself "how bad can this potentially be for America?" Sometimes you simply have to act for the good of the nation when it's demanded.

28. I believe O'Connor came to regret her decision after the fact, when it was too late.
Edited on Tue Aug-09-11 02:11 PM by Uncle Joe

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x465715

As for former Justice O’Connor, she is quoted as saying of Bush v. Gore: “I don’t think what emerged in the last opinion was the court’s best effort. It was operating under a very short time frame, to say the least. Given more time, I think we probably would’ve done better.”

Or at least she attempted to make a bullshit excuse for it, which is still more than the other four members of the felonious five could/would do.

Most likely had they left this to state of Florida, Bush would have ended up in the White House anyway even if Gore got more votes in the recount because the Republican controlled Florida legislature was prepared to send its' own separate slate of electors and the Republican controlled U.S. Congress would have certified them.

However by interfering with the election, the Supreme Court let the Republican Party off the hook from making such an anti-democratic decision and made it less likely that Gore could/would mount a momentum favoring challenge four years later along the lines of Andy Jackson.

39. No, she doesn't regret her decision

I watched her in an interview where she said something to the effect - in hindsight we made the right decision because you know they went back and recounted the vote and George Bush still won.

I wish someone would mail her the results of the recount because she is delusional.

Because if they're RIGHT, by the time you know they were right, it's too fucking late to do anything about it! What then? What do you do when you have no clean water to drink? What do you do when the air is too polluted to breath? YOU DIE. Dumb asses. They are too stupid to be wasting good oxygen. :grr:

19. It's seriously mind-boggling. And, not only when considering their children, or grandchildren...
But their grandchildren's grandchildren, and their grandchildren's grandchildren, and ad infin-fucking-itum. I know they have trouble seeing (and caring for) anything past their own noses - and hardly consider their children's environmental plight, as is - but existence (both humanity and otherwise) will extend FAR beyond their selfish stint on this planet, and basic operation for future-future inhabitants will only get exponentially more difficult if we continue business as usual.

What will it take to get past the well-funded deniers?

At some point, it's going to be blatantly obvious there's global warming. (It is now, actually.) I fear we'll be 2 to 3 degrees warmer before take serious and necessary action.

I just hope the angry mobs take pitchforks and torches to those responsible for delaying action.
