Strange, isn't it, that the head of government would state, "Government is the problem."
Then why are you in government? Are you proud being part of an institution which you consider problematic?

Just astounding to me that Reagan got away with saying that. And you still hear it from Republicans.

1. It government is so awful, why do they spend 100's of millions running for office and
do anything unethical to game election results? Only a moron could believe that a Rrepublican wants 'smaller' government. What they want is control of the purse strings...because there is no easier dollar stolen the ones that you can legislate to yourselves.

4. Exactly. Fine with me if Republicons want to stay out of government.
They do a horrible job governing anyway.

2. Reagan was essentially saying "We the People" are the problem.
Reagen and his ilk truly believe/believed in corporate supremacy, whether they have/had the guts to come out and say it or not.

Thanks for the thread, closeupready.

3. "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'"

..said the Man from the Government, in an effort to Help.

why did everyone swoon over that? it is a prima facie paradoxical statement.

6. I'm not sure if Reagan coined that or someone else, but I remember his saying that, too.

7. Like everything else about Reagan, it was written for him to say.
Mike Deaver and Jim Baker ran the shop...Ron's job was to hit his mark's, say the words, and act like he was President.

8. Reagan of course, was wrong.
It turns out that government is not the problem: Republican government is the problem.

9. I also love it when, John Boehner, for instance...
...says "those Washington insiders..."

He did that 2 weeks ago in his rebuttal to Obama's speech.

"Those Washington insiders..."
That's YOU dude!

11. You gotta kind of wonder why voters fall for that rhetoric,
coming from such a source. Or maybe that old axiom, "Consider the source" isn't taught in school anymore.
