A movement of non-violent non-compliance...
Edited on Tue Aug-09-11 01:23 PM by Ozymanithrax
There are many threads that call for some leader to appear and lead us, or ask what can we do in the face of a government that is not performing as we need it to perform.

Personally, I am a big fan of non-violent non-compliance with an unjust government.

Here are some ideas, and I am sure other people have their own.

(1) If you want to protest military involvement in unjust wars, hold a protest at a base. Chain yourself to a fence. Get arrested. Have friends take video of your protest and post that video on you-tube. If you can, get as many friends as you can to chain themselves to the fence. Always, always have people whose job is to document your activities and post them. They should not be with the group getting arrested.

(2) Go to a town hall meeting held by your representative with a couple of friends. Have them take video of you speaking out and getting tossed out or arrested for daring to speak. Put that video on You-tube. Again, don't do this alone. Get like minded friends to do it with you and others to document your protest.

(3) Hold your protest at important, strategic places. Government offices, media outlets. Your opponents know that silence is their best friend, so always have people assigned to document what your do.

(5) Take video of everything.

(6) Give your group a name, set up a site on the internet. Post a manifesto, and keep your videos there as well as putting them on You-tube and other social sites.

(7) If you have a little money, set yourself up as a pac or a non-profit and collect donations to fund protest activities. If a Church can do it, you can to.

(8) Expect to get arrested, but do not use violence.

(7) Expect to get beaten, but do not use violence back.

3. At the second #7 you lost me.

If someone is beating me, I will fight back.

The only time I condone protests becoming violent is if the police initiate the violence. Then I'm all for it.

It's why I don't bother with protests. Knowing that if you defend yourself your "friends" will immediately backpedal and wring their hands about how terrible it is that you raised your arm to stop a baton from shattering your nose means you don't have friends.

4. I take my ideas form Gandhi...
You don't have to follow that path.

Lots of revolutionaries justify violent political acts by saying that the other guy did it, and at times in history there has been no choice. Sometimes violence is forced upon us. At this time, we are not in a position where we have no choice. And if you follow non-violent non-compliance, then when the cop or the agitator hits you, you don't hit back.

Violence or non-violence is an individual choice. These ideas would likely not work for you.
